Small room acoustics

Hello everybody.
I have just treated myself to a pair of Event TR6 monitors.

Now i did hook them up for a very short time today (my roomie wanted to sleep) and noticed something not good.

I have made a mention of how i understand the importance of a room, and that i do realize the fact that this room, in particular sounds bad (esp. in the lows).

I was going to do my next investment in a good soundcard (the M-audio 1010LT) but i think that will be put on hold now. I will first do up this room and then see what change i have left. My financial position is not very strong and all acoustics need to be DIY. Since this is a rented accomodation, permanent installations on the walls etc. might not be a good idea. Also availability of dedicated material, for eg. open cell foam, is a rarity. though glasswool is no problem.

the size of my monitoring room is approx. 10feet in width; 12 in length; 10 in height. I will take all exact calculations and post them later in the day.
Also a few piks if possible. I face the width of the room. Monitors bout 1.5feet off the rear wall and 1.5/4.5 feet of the side walls.

The main problem as of now that im facing is in the low's. It's all too muddy and all to boomy. I will also study up modes (have forgotten) and calculate em tommorow.

I reckon that starting with DIY Bass Traps would be a good idea. I have no idea.

Go to SAE's (schoool of audio engineering) website and look up their tech info pages for starters. Lot of good data on how to for acoustic recording and acoustics in general. You can start playing your favorite cd (or if you actually have a CD you use for reference, well Duh...) every time you can and try to make a note of what you think needs to be done to get it to sound even in that room.
