Hi,

I have a setup containing a Radium 49 keyboard and the audiophile 2496 card. Now I have some weird problems with the keyboard...

When I use a external power source (not the usb) I get no midi signal what so ever in Cubase. Here's the funny thing, when I put the usb cable in and power up the keyboard with the external power source and with the midi cable in the "Keyboard" slot, I get a signal in Cubase. But as soon as the usb cable is not in place, nothing. Another funny thing is that when I still have the cable in the keyboard slot and use the usb as power source, I get a signal in Cubase as well...

I have tried to reset the keyboard to factory defaults as well by holding down midi select when I fire the baby up but nothing seem to help and I'm stuck with the usb thing although I don't want to use it. hmmm...

Have sent an email to their support but they are so darn slow when it comes to answering. Maybe someone here have had the same problem and know a fix for it?

Thanks in advance,

When faced with a problem that irritating, I never bother with an e-mail. Call them directly, which is what I did when I had a technical issue with my Radium 61.

It was summarily solved very fast.

Good luck.

Give them a call... yeah I guess I should try that then and why didn't I think of that. :) Thanks mate...

Uh, you do have the midi cable hooked up don't you? If you're not using USB, you'd have to be using the midi on the keyboard... Right?

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I had an Oxygene keyboard. And to use the Midi ports, I had to switch something on the back of it. It had 3 options. USB, OFF, EXT (External Power).

Hope that helps you out.

on the Radium 49 you have two options.

1. With external Power Source
When you have this and power it up with the power switch to the left, you should have the midi cable in the "Keyboard" midi slot. Check!

I'm doing this but nothing, until I actually put the usb chord in again. Although I'm not using the usb function in on the keyboard when I use dc battery adapter and the midi cable in keyboard.

2. With usb cable
With the usb cable in, there's not need for an external power supply and the midi cable should be in the midi slot labeled "USB". When I use no external power source, the power switch goes to the right (usb) Check

When I have this everything works fine but the funny thing is, I can still have the midi cable in the midi slot "Keyboard" which should not work according to the manual when I only use USB and power it up through that.

Like I said, strange stuff...

I run my R49 off USB apart from if Orion crashes the USB connection hangs. I have to unplug lead, go into task manager close ghostly Orion that is still there despite having gone off my screen then plug back in and fire up Orion. Lately I have had to reboot a couple of times, some ASIO problem.

btw I also use Audiophile 24/96

Cheers

There are 2 rules to being a success in life: 1. Never give out all the information.

If you do not use the USB cable, then the MIDI signal is passed through the standard MIDI cable.

1. Is this MIDI cable plugged into e.g. SBlive card?

2. Is the MIDI driver of this e.g. SBlive card installed properly in Windows?

3. Have you selected this other MIDI port in Cubase?

1. Yep the midi cable is going from midi out on the keyboard to midi in at the audiophile 24/96 sound card.

2. Yep it's installed correctly and also the latest versions. Actually, I have had this problem with the latest three versions (or so) of the sound card drivers so maybe M Audio have messed things up trying to get their two products to sync together although it sounds like a pretty stupid error to make.

3. Yep I have selected the right midi port in cubase...

In the radium series the usb port is not just for powering up but it actually carries the midi signal, it's sort ofa usb-2-midi in built in.

The keyboard out according to my manual actually serves the purpose of sending data out to an 'extra' midi device, but the main midi out, when you're not using the usb, should be the 'usb' labelled midi out, not that this should change much in usage, but you could give it a try switching the cables.

Also by the switch on the back you can choose to have the radium mains powered rather than usb powered, it doesnt depend on the cable being attached to it as it also carries midi data. In short you can usb connect the radium and have it powered by the adaptor OR the usb OR batteries (i think the 49 can run on batteries, my 61 can't) via the back switch.

As for the no midi problem i think it's strange that you get the midi with the usb power and not without (unless the the adaptor fails to power up the radium, but i don't think that's the case uh) it could be that in your host you have selected "radium" as your midi input, and that would be the usb port where the radium is attached, while you should really have 'audiophile midi in' .

hope it helps, sorry for my poor english.

grillo-> thanks for trying but your suggestions don't do anything. As long as I don't have the usb cable attached to the radium 49 usb connector nothing happens in Cubase. And it's the use of the usb cable I want to get away from as I have limited usb ports in my computer and they are used by other hardware.

I have the audiophile midi in selected in cubase so that's not it.

And as I tried to describe before. It does not matter if I have the midi cable in the midi "USB" or "Keyboard" slot when I have the usb cable connected to the "usb" port on the keyboard. It's when I take that out and try to use the keyboard with the 9v battery adapter that nothing happens. Then it doesn't matter if the midi cable is in the "USB" or "Keyboard" slot. None of them work unless the USB cable is inserted.

Oh well, guess I'm stuck with taking of the printer usb cable and inserting the keyboard usb for the time being... :(

Thanks for all your suggestions...

dudaah,

I have one last suggestion, try MidiOx and monitor the MIDI input port through MidiOx.

If MidiOx says no go, then:

1. the MIDI output of the Radium 94 is dead,
2. the cable has a broken link,
3. the MIDI input port of the Audiophile is down,
4. the MIDI input driver does not work properly.

One last resort, buy a cheap USB hub, then you can connect all your USB devices. MIDI over USB does not need USB2...

I'll check that MidiOx out... Thanks for your tries to help me out here mate...
