Backing tracks & midi messages

I am a solo musician using mp3 backing tracks from Winamp Playlist.
I have been looking for for a software package with a playlist format, that can play my mp3 backtracks & at the same time send midi program changes to vocal / guitar fx hardware.
Ableton Live has been suggested but it all looks rather complicated.
Any suggestions?

Download the demo and see if it works for you ... the Lite version will probably be enough.
