I shall "elaborate," but this comment about sums it up. :) The main problems are:
  • You cannot search patches by name, when you're in the file-browser view.
  • You cannot filter or hide patches you don't like.
  • You cannot filter by patches you especially like (ie: by rating or by color).
  • You cannot rate (or "colorize") patches from the browser (you need to edit it on another page).
  • You're restricted to NI's (inadequate) tags. ...which are in fairly arbitrary categories.
  • You cannot edit the tags from the browser (again, another page).
  • You cannot drag-and-drop between folders (even though it looks like it's dragging something...)
...As a web developer, I find these kinds of shortcomings infuriating: these are the (relatively) easy things to do, programmatically. :\

I've not found a perfect patch-browser yet, but Spectrasonics' is clearly the best so far. ...why every developer isn't doing something like this is beyond me. [shrug]

Speaking of Absynth, one effect I really liked when tried it was the Aetherizer effect. Quite a strange and unique granular effect… Do you guys know a similar plugin effect? I don’t wanna buy Absynth just for that effect…

You guys have had me face deep in this thing for the last 72 hours and I have to say...wow. I had no idea it could do all this. It's just always been there in front of my face so I took it for granted, but the filters are thin and digital with a flat, standard response (like all NI kit that I know of), But if you brought the filters up and gave them some character, and gave me a larger gui.... this thing would compete with zebra. Mind = blown. I should have picked this up years ago.

...I see what you mean and the change of the format wasn't taken lightly over here, too. I also might have had Kore in mind and might have mixed things up when I asked. But I wouldn't see some things as a problem (i.e. the attributes view), a workaround for the filtering could be a) using the favourites folder and b) sorting a category by clicking on its name tab. I agree that some categories make you wonder to say the least, but I can imagine that the folks at NI might have felt that the Kore categorisation system got a bit academical and opened up possibilities to maintain your preset library like an excessive philatelist his stamp collection (certainly it meant a lot of work for them). So, perhaps they thought this was the way to make it a bit easier. However, I'd be fine if it would be possible to create custom categories or if they would at least reintroduce the timbre category, which would be the most significant one for me if I'd search for a sound. But I pretty much stopped using libraries a couple of years ago and create my own patches instead.

@aMUSEd - that why I added "IIRC" :). I thought I hit the end of the road at some point when I tried to do something with the morph squares, but I don't remember exactly. As a Kore 1 & 2 user I have always had a love/hate relationship with it. I think as a concept it's the best idea since the invention of VST, but there were always things that were missing for me (i.e. no patterns for the monophonic sequencer - and why no polyphonic one while we're at it). Routing and grouping/parallel processing wasn't particularly intuitive, why no categorisation for samples to drop samples into Kontakt (K2/K3 back then), why NO modulators like in GR etc.etc. Anyway - while being very pissed, at the time when it was discontiuned, over the years I found it more & more as a relief that I don't have to worry about it anymore. And I'd be totally fine with it, if they would reintroduce some concepts in a better way in future products - like that Komplete browser or as a combinator/rack tool in Maschine (would make me use that thing more) or in a future version of Guitar Rig that would adopt Kore's structure...

BTW SugarBytes Cyclop has a nice spin on the whole patch browsing system -- a could view the text and you could select a keyboard -- let's say wobble (!) and it lists in another view suitable candidates. Ok, it's close to the same as a typical spreadsheet view with keywords but I liked the visual look. Might suite Absynth that also has a non-earthly UI look.

Noise generator (using noise sample is problem sounds always same!),and addinational filters even osc sync (even both hard and soft...) is nice idea.:)

I applaud Spectrasonics for the early announcement of Omnisphere 2 and Image-Line for the early public debate of FL Studio 12. I wish Native Instruments and other follow on their footsteps. It would organize my what and when to buy list.

I would love to see a better way to import samples into absynth, with a browser that would allow you to prelisten to the sample, a bit like battery.

And maybe some drag'n drop from cubase project window, but I know I'm dreaming with this one. :hihi:

Does NI even care about any feature requests ? :ud:

Don't wanna be the soup pisser, but you guys really think NI will update Absynth one day? I seriously doubt. But I wish I'm wrong. Cause yeah of course I'd like to see it updated and see it totally revamped, but I really doubt it's gonna happen by seeing the huge lack of improvements, updates & love they gave to it in the last years.

They certainly seem more busy with their hardware and licensing content than they do their flagship synthesizers.
SW: Cubase 9.5 | Komplete 11 | Omnisphere 2 | Perfect Storm 2.5 | Soundtoys 5
HW: Steinberg UR28M | Focal Alpha 50 | Fender Jazz Bass | Alesis VI25

Last thing you want is NI updating anything, every update they have posted of their own software in the ladt couple of years adds more bugs than anything else, and they ignore the bugs entirely or blame the end user for them, look at the state of Maschine !

+1
Perhaps developers should mention that they will consider feature requests and to prove that they do to participate in the FR threads, or in some way show that they are sincere.

My feeling is that the 666 is near.
Absynth 6
Kontakt 6
Reaktor 6
June 6 at 6AM.
Year intentionally omitted! :ud:

I would love to see Absynth 6 to be multi-touch.
Perhaps two GUI's with the multi-touch GUI to
have larger knobs and sliders.

What an expression-fest this will be!

I'd like to see.... well, Absynth 6. That's all!

We finally got Reaktor 6, maybe there's hope after all! :D
