Can I say this - I need to say this. I frickin love Torley. I wish we had a billion of him.

No.... On second thought he's just fine the way he is.

Probably just that it is far to hip for an old fart like me.

Actually, there is a ton of electronic music that I do like. But these are lots of edgy, gritty, distorted, dirty, snarled sounds that probably don't fit in with much of anything I do, and my music runs across many genres. There are also lots of sound effect-type patches - the sort of stuff that is probably great for film and TV, but probably not too practical otherwise.

I am hearing things in the O2 preset library that remind me a lot of the sounds in Absynth... interesting stuff to fool around with, but not very musical, at least in any remotely traditional musical sense.

But... there is certainly more to the O2 preset library than this. I love a lot of the analog-sounding arps and bpm things. But if you're looking for big polysynth pads, choirs, and the spectacularly gorgeous pads that made Omnisphere famous - well, I guess Eric felt like those had already been done. In general, the new sounds skew more toward the edgy end of the spectrum. And if you're looking to add dubstep wobbles and drops to your sound arsenal, well Omnisphere has those now, too.

But I still have lots of presets to play through.

I have been working tonight on what will become a set of video demos of Omnisphere 2 sounds. Hopefully, I will finish it up over the weekend. The only thing that could get in my way is the forecast of absolutely gorgeous weather here in Chicago, which could lure my outside and away from the keys.

Maybe send him a mail through youtube and request his services on behalf of his fans here at kvr :hihi:. I would but haven't figured out (and don't plan to anytime soon) the new youtube login settings after they were purchased by google. In fact, just tell him to make more videos, doesn't have to be omnisphere. He seems to have quited down lately..

Yup. Gorgeous weather here too. And I'm going to go out and see Age of Ultron with my brother. Because even though I am an old man, I can still do whatever I want to!

I look forward to hearing what you do with Omnisphere 2

I love the sequences from Omni 1. Stacking them with arps, pads, and the occasional vox sample or effects can creating some really unique patches really quickly. I made dozens of multi-patches like this, but sadly, when transferring to a new machine they were lost.. So, + 1 on a quick run through of the new sequences and maybe stacking them and messing with the orb... Really, can't wait
to try myself, but all this talk, I think I'll go make some new multi's in vesion one right now :hyper:

Really lovely arps and pads in here. Like the part around 115. Cheers and thanks for sharing :tu:

I'm curious to have your opinions on its granular capabilities. Thanks!
On a granular level, it's not bad. It's no Mangle. It's no Padshop. But it's functional and with everything else Omni offers, it's good enough.

And that's the great thing about Omni. It's kind of like a Swiss Army Knift. The only thing I'd say it specializes in is atmospheric pads and soundscapes. Everything else it does good enough that, as a package, is one of the best all around synths you can get.

And it sure as hell better be at $500.

+1 This is exactly why I too was underwhelmed somewhat on the new presets. That said though, I believe the future is bright for the sounds I'm personally looking for, since there is no way that killer 3rd-party stuff will not appear soon....or perhaps I should get off my duff and learn the potential of Omni 2 myself. :tu:

Hah! I had forgotten that I'd done this! Thanks for reminding me.

Y'know, demos are just so much better when a whole bunch of sounds like this are used in some kind of context. I have been working on these video demos of Omnisphere 2, just doing my usual one-preset-at-a-time approach. I know that people like these, but I am just kind of over doing demos that way. And with a lot of these Omnisphere sounds, what is so exciting about watching a yoyo like me just hit one key and listening to a sound evolve, or make some big BOOINNNGGGKERRRRRANNNNNGGGG noise?

Anyhow, glad you've enjoyed that video. I'd forgotten about it.

Yes, the same could be said for me. But I have always considered myself more of a player and composer than sound designer. Although I tend to create my own patches from scratch when using analog synths, with complex beasts like Omnisphere (that also have massive preset libraries) I find myself doing more tweaking than anything else. There are so many existing sounds that inspire me - things that I hear, and I say to myself, "Wow! That sound is so cool, I just gotta compose a song with THAT!" Although sometimes "THAT" means a bit less reverb, or a faster attack, or a slightly different arp, or a timbre that is a shade mellower.

Many of these "more-like-noise-less-like-traditional-music" patches - like the stuff that comes out of Absynth - can sometimes find a place in my music. But I use those sounds around the edges - as sonic effects here and there - little bits of icing around the proverbial cake. Now, again - if I was a film composer - creating sonic backdrops for images - a lot of this stuff would be creative gold.

Yeah, I love that guy too. Torley is one of a kind. Such a great personality on top of some serious talent. I saw him selling something here on kvr marketplace a few months ago. Maybe he'll see these comments and grace us with an omni 2 video.
