You mean for the common FX bus?

A and B FX were modulateable in Omnisphere... I just checked several of my old V1 patches that do that.

What is the install size if I do not have omnisphere 1 and am going for a full fresh install?

How long did it take?

Should be way faster than installing V1 since it comes on a USB stick :tu:

V1 took 3-4 hours to install from the DVDs

OK, I take back a previous statement when I said that I was just a bit underwhelmed by the presets regarding sounds I could use for the type of music that I typically write. I just went through the "Textures Playable" section and DAMN there is some REAL fantastic stuff in there. I am now officially OVERWHELMED!!!! :tu:

Awesome quantum7 that's what I wanted to hear! Love that stuff, especially when Spectrasonics is involved.

It's really wonderful to be in a situation in which we can use this stuff... would be nice to actually be able to buy it!!! Ha ha, but, hey...

Wait it isn't a download? Is there a download option?

Or do I have to wait for it to ship to me?

Yep... the thing is it takes quite a while to get familiar with all the included content... because Omni is so general means you find more and more useful things over time that you initially overlooked because you were not looking for them specifically.

After a year of using it as my main synth I still was finding new stuff I could apply in different ways all the time :tu:

I wonder how many EDM patches there are, seems a lot. can you delete them or not see them?

About 800 patches.

You can't delete them, but you only see them in the browser when Directory is set to "Spotlight - EDM", "All" or "All Spectrasonics".

Being from Dublin, Ireland we had heavy regular exposure to what was going on in the underground scenes in the U.K. and the rest of Europe long before the European sound came to the USA.
Despite my background, even still I can say that I think Dubstep and all this other wub wub blip blop bullshit is not any kind of progression or stepping stone to something new and improved or the next stage of anything but rather the end of the line for a tired and worn out genre that has run out of new ideas in much the same way that rock music and many other styles did.
To be honest I'm disappointed in Spectrasonics pandering to that demographic because it's already gotten old and outdated. We all know how cheesy those old trance sounds from the mid-late 90s sound today, they haven't dated as well as some sounds from the 80s have they?
This dubstep stuff will have even less of a shelf life than that and dare I say will date Omnisphere itself a lot more than any bread and butter pad sounds.
I totally agree. I hate 'dubstep' with a passion, and I hate the crappy 'dubstep' sounds that I see in preset packs for Massive especially - it seems as if 90% of the preset packs are aimed at 'dubstep', and all of the sounds are completely unusable in any other genre of music (i.e. decent music). These 'harsh' sounds irritate the hell out of me when I come across them - Spire is another victim of this, and according to what some people have experienced with Omnisphere 2, even it has loads of presets that are too 'hot' because for some reason Spectrasonics thought that would be clever. It's really irritating when you are looking to buy more presets for a synth, and all you can find are unusable sounds, all stuck in the same 'dubstep' or 'EDM' timewarp.
Some of these preset packs have become parodies of themselves - just go and look for Sylenth expansions and listen to the demoes - 99% will sound exactly the same, and be 'cookie cutter' dubstep and EDM bullshit.

That sums it up very nicely.
The "playground" term was originated by 'noiseboyuk' earlier in this thread:
"But the bigger thing is that this is a synthesis playground like you wouldn't believe."

God, I hope that word never gets used on this forum again... interesting how so many people have started using it in this thread...

If you're gonna write commercial music the worst thing you do is hate certain types of music. You have to find characteristics in whatever sound that are appealing. Dubstep is no longer in vogue anyway but the 'harsh' sounds like squeals, edgy razor synths etc, are and will continue to be.

Really pleased that I have not lost any of my ratings and all the controller mappings I set up in my Kore template are still intact too.
Good to know. My ratings are like a map to the vast wilderness.
Yes - which is why my first FR would be to be able to see them in the side browser, it's a bit useless without them.

I think a lot of people are not really getting the whole Spectrasonics browser thing.

With around 7.500 patches, going through them one-by-one is clearly the road to madness. Even just with a broad category you'll be swamped. Use the filters to narrow down the area you're looking in. If you're after a playable texture or Kalimbascape, you won't find any EDM in there anyway. If you want a Synth Bass that's not dubstep, you just select Dubstep from the Genre menu, then the NOT condition at the top of the column (drop down arrow). Voila - all dubstep patches gone. You can multiple select these sorts of attributes too using shift-click, select other criteria in other columns etc.

So don't think in terms of deleting presets, it doesn't make sense in the Omnisphere world, and start using the browser as its intended. When that happens, you only ever see what's relevant to you - every time I'm searching I'm looking for something different, and this is how you do it. It's the whole key to working with Omnisphere presets, and it's immeasurably better than any of the competition imo. And don't forget of course if you have something you like in broad terms, you can sound match to find similar patches, and sound lock to lock attributes you want to keep.

(incidentally, 800 EDM presets is only 1/10th of the entire library... these are all new Omni 2 patches, I'd guesstimate there are around 2,000 presets tagged with the word Dance, which is around 1/4 of the library.)

I totally agree. I mean, I feel omnisphere has always been filled with interesting patches that were pretty unusable - like a piano on fire or whatever. I mean when it has 8000 patches or whatever, you know there's some bloat...

I haven't spent too much time Omni2, but I do think the patch browser has improved in that you can see the browser patches on the side bar while looking at the interface. I think that makes it better for preset surfing.

so far, I'm very happy with it, though I think I expected FM to do a bit more.

BTW, I'm an old man and I think Dub Step is great. Just recently got into it (I know I'm behind the times - I'm an old man). But I've always liked harsher music (hardcore punk, 80's industrial, etc)...
