The peak rate for USB 2 is 60 Megabytes/sec and few USB 2 to SATA converters are good enough to sustain ideal rates.

The current generation of consumer SSDs can easily exceed 400 Megabytes/sec for both read and write operations. It doesn't make sense to invest in SSD when using a USB 2 to sata converter for performance.

There are still reasons to consider SSD with USB 2 though. SSD drives produce less heat meaning you won't need a fan in the enclosure and they generally use less power so you probably don't need a powered enclosure. SSDs are also less prone to physical bumps and shocks causing the hard drive to crash. Random access times of smaller files will also be faster than a hard drive.

Looks like I need to use the Thunderbolt port then :(

This is amusing to me to hear somebody insisting on using unprofessional computer equipment to run professional tools. You willing to pay for Omnesphere that cost more than MacMini (almost) yet you dont have meaningful workstation. I would skip on Omnesphere and start saving for real workstation, and while waiting, use macMini to watch TV with. You can build basic desktop at around $700 and make it run Windows and MacOs at the same time. Also- there is computer's section on this forum for this discussion.

If you going to use USB 2, buy large Seagate or Western Digital HDD. Also there are SunderBolt SSDs available- you dont need adopter. Look for it on www.NewEgg.com. Thanks.

How is the cpu? Someone with both versions installed, could you load a multi in each versions and compare? I remember some mutli's caused glitching and was hoping for a better load on the cpu for v2.

I haven'the noticed much difference between the two versions. Since the Omni 2 installation replaces the older version, I would need to install Omni 1 on another computer to do a comparison. It's easier on my cpu than Diva, but there is some difference in load from one patch to another.

I have no problems loading any single patches. I'd also just like it to be that way for whatever multi I load or decide to creat. I'd be happy to be able to atleast load one instance (multi) which can have a combination of any 8 patches without cpu issues, which I wasn't able to do in V1. One instance with 8 slots filled can go a long way :o ,an entire track even :hihi: ,though I'd probably stream to wave in a real setting regardless so I can work with other instruments. It'd be real nice is stylus could also be loaded in omnisphere. Then we'd be set I'd think.

Been playing with Omnisphere 2 since yesterday. It's such a shame that we can't select the arpeggiator output as a modulation source.

You can use the velocities that are produced by the arp to modulate any target in the pattern that the arp provides. Would be cool if one could disable the arp to trigger notes for each of the layers and just use it as a kind of a step lfo for modulating or to combine a pad with an arp within one patch.
My fav aspect of the arp must be the new speed control. If you crank that into audioterritory and modulate it with an LFO you get some massive amplitude modulation stuff!

Yep, I use this trick all the time.

The key is to make subtle changes in velocity have large impacts by tuning the modulation depth and starting point.

Indeed, thanks for that tip Wu!

ANyone noticed the note, legato & song modes dont work with the envelopes? They stay greyed out. Had same issue with O1. Unless there's something Im missing. How do you activate legato?
