Had something to do with the installer not being prepared for certain non-English versions of Windows, which caused a certain mess with file permissions and Windows UAC. As the problem is language-related, the vast majority of users doesn´t have it. Will try it tonight.
what does fyi mean again? :)
ok please write the problem solving please if you can when you fixed it!

My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Caine123, check your PMs regularly. ;)

Well, I tried what spectrasonics support recommended in the new Email and used the new installer I was given, and ... it still does not work. Sorry about giving you false hopes. Contacted spectrasonics support again.

My only issue with Omni 2 was backing it up. I'm on Win 7 x64, and installation/auth was no problem. But for some reason, I tried to back up the downloaded folders to a 32gig thumbdrive and it repeatedly failed. I tried with 2 different drives, actually, and both times I got messages that said the psychoacoustic portion of the STEAM folder required more storage space.

Does anyone know why this would occur? A 32 gig drive actually contains 28 gig of usable storage. These drives were brand new, and the Omni 2 folders only show about 18 gig of required space. Should be plenty. Is there some technical reason why this would be so?

Two possibilities:

1. Not enough RAM to store the files being transferred.
You wouldn't need to have all 18GB being transferred across in memory, but SOME at least.

2. Drive is formatted in FAT16 or FAT32
Possibly some of the DB files in Omni are larger than 4GB, which is the file size limit for the above HD formats.

My problem is like Cowboy's.
I don't remember getting the challenge code window (you are supposed to click the splash screen and it should come up - mine didn't/hasn't).
I seemingly can't get the challenge code.

Windows 7 home ed.
The dll is 1.5.8d 64bit, soundsources 1.0.2, patches 1.5.5.
I bough the version 1 with free upgrade.

Tech a bit unhelpful.

Another person with Win 7 Home not getting the auth window.
Starting to see a pattern emerging here. ;)

Noticing this doesn't happen on Win 7 Pro!!!

Downloaded, installed & authorised onto my Win 7 Home laptop & running fine on Cubase Pro 8 (default settings, no admin rights used)

BTW what kind of copy protection does Omni 2 have? How many activations/computers are you allowed to use it on?

None of this info is on the spectra website... :help: :?:

Yes, the tech only gave me a bunch of screen capture and tons of words on how to tune the permission...

As I am not with my computer, the solution is (kind of)

1) go to C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics and find a file called audio.??? (can't recall). Rename it and start your DAW -> start Omni 1.58d and you will see the challenge code screen.

Ok, so we can rule THAT out then.

It's challenge/response. From their FAQ:
Do Spectrasonics Virtual Instruments use an iLok or any kind of dongle for Copy Protection?
No. All Spectrasonics products use a custom-developed Challenge/Response system. This system allows you to install and authorize 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, with our system, you aren't limited to using them on only one computer. Since all Spectrasonics instruments have a "single-user/multiple-computer" license, you can install and use them on as many computers that you own and will be using yourself.
I haven't tried authorizing on more than two computers (a PC and my old Macbook) but haven't had any issues with their C/R. It's built into the plugin and doesn't require any external software to use.

If your music PC is offline you can do the whole thing with cut and paste and the web.

Okay, so renaming the AUDIO14.DAT file brings up the authentication screen and it creates a new audio14.dat file (thanks cowboy).

Now what do I do next, I have an account on spectrasonics.net and when I put the response code into the website it gives another screen asking why I am authenticating twice. I just put reinstall.
Now it accepts that and the account now has

"NOTE: Omnisphere 2 is a paid upgrade. For more information click 'HERE'"

The 'Omnisphere 1 Updates' are the upgrades I already have.
Where are the omnisphere 2 updates?
