But for some reason, I tried to back up the downloaded folders to a 32gig thumbdrive and it repeatedly failed. I tried with 2 different drives, actually, and both times I got messages that said the psychoacoustic portion of the STEAM folder required more storage space.
Does anyone know why this would occur? A 32 gig drive actually contains 28 gig of usable storage. These drives were brand new, and the Omni 2 folders only show about 18 gig of required space. Should be plenty. Is there some technical reason why this would be so?

1. Not enough RAM to store the files being transferred.
You wouldn't need to have all 18GB being transferred across in memory, but SOME at least.
2. Drive is formatted in FAT16 or FAT32
Possibly some of the DB files in Omni are larger than 4GB, which is the file size limit for the above HD formats.
Thanks for your response. #2 is probably the culprit as the psychoacoustic file is a large one, and the dialog says I need an additional 1.2 gig. That's probably what it's referring to. The thumb drives I'm using are generic-made-in-China types. I didn't know that the formatting could make a difference, or, for that matter, there could be more than one format.

This is probably known fact but if it helps- some computers (or their manufacturers) create account other then Administrator. Back in the day I had Vista system and I had Astralv account and Child account for my son, so when I needed to install something, I would use Astralv. One day I found out that Astralv was not Admin account and Admin account was not activated or some other kind of hidden issue. So go to your account management place and make sure it states that account you using is Admin.
Another way to look at it is that some DAW (for unknown to me reason) like to be "run as administrator". This means- you have to right click on the desktop icon and select "Run as Administrator".

Installation of the software and data upgrade seem to be okay. Although I got some errors on the challenge /response screen that came up after update. Most of the stuff seems to work.
I still am finding the way to make a patch from an initial state a pain. This thing doesn't save into a new file for some stupid reason. I have to manually create a copy of a file, refresh the browser and select the copy file and edit that. If I haven't done this then I have to copy the layer of the file I modified in the synth and then create a new file (on the harddrive) and then refresh the browser. Select that file and then paste back the layer I copied. Go to browser, edit tags and then save.
I must be doing something wrong somewhere.

Ok, I close the vst down and then fire it up again and the vst gives me 'program v2 not installed properly'. I have to put the response code in again. Close the vst and then reload it in the daw. Get same error but then it goes to the main omnisphere v2 screen and I can play the samples and stuff, but saving from initial patch is funny and or confusing.

Ok, this is a bit funny, now if I reload from start (the daw has restarted from scratch) then I get a dialogue saying 'Installation was not completed properly. Omnisphere patch data needs to be upgraded to version 2. Review installation procedure and install the version 2 data'
Click ok and I get the splash screen omnisphere 2 with a diagnostics button and some text saying "omnisphere found. To enable omnisphere to use these sounds, click the authorize..ton."
I just click the power 2 synth part of the screen and it takes me to the default patch and the editor.
It might be some old patches/library causing this - yet to work on.

Same problem as Maniacoli. I had to use the prompt to get rig of the Steam shortcut and all seems OK now with the new link.
Frustrating to get back to the command line in 2015 but at least it's working.
I upgraded Omnisphere on the Studio computer without any glitches. This problem happened on my second computer (laptop). Both are running Win 7 64 bits. My laptop has a french version.
The installer is not checking if there is enough space on the drive for the new Steam. On the laptop install the HD went full and I started receiving messages regarding some files having permission problems. I stopped the install. I cleaned the drive to make space and ran the data installer again.
All went fine without any error message related to permission, but when starting Omnisphere 2 I got a message that Library needed to be upgraded to V2.
Following Maniacoli advice (recreating Steam Shorcut) has solved the problem for me.
So I would say that the V2 installer can be trusted has it went very well on The desktop Computer.
I would recommend making sure that all Spectrasonics software are up to date before making the upgrade to V2 and making sure you have enough space for the new library.

from Spectrasonics, after telling me it's not their Installer EVEN i advised them to re-check (im IT technician but not perfect but this was pretty narrowed down by me and others here). im pretty disappointed!
i dunno why i cannot just use the new installer? if i re-install i dont want to do the whole procedure again, bad bad bad spectra, really bad...
Thanks very much for your patience while we've been working to determine the solution for this issue. We know it's been very frustrating not to be able to work with your Spectrasonics instruments in the meantime. We sincerely apologize for the fact that upgrading to Omnisphere 2 was the cause of the problem.
We discovered that the problem was caused by the way in which our installer interacts with non-English versions of Windows. Although our Beta Team had a wide range of international Windows users, they were all using English versions of Windows, so unfortunately this isolated issue slipped past our beta-testing phase. This explains why the vast majority of our users have not had this problem, but it has affected quite a few Windows users in Europe.
The original installer for the Omnisphere 2 upgrade inadvertently caused changes to the Spectrasonics folder, which interfered with the authorization system. The only way to correct this is to modify the permissions and ownership settings of your Spectrasonics folder.
While the issue is corrected for all customers downloading and installing from now on, those who used our initial installer on non-English Windows versions will need to go through the steps in the attached .pdf file to remedy the problem on their systems.
Attached are two .pdf files (one for Windows 7, the other for Windows
with step-by-step instructions on how to repair the settings for your Spectrasonics folder.
After fixing the permissions, please use the link at the end of the .pdf to download and install the special update to Omnisphere. This should prevent the issue from happening again.
Once again, I’m sorry that this was such a rough installation for you. Please let me know if this solution works on your system.

Why not give you a new working installer? It's going to be a pain every time you install that on any computer! That's crappy service. It's like if you buy something from the store and take it home and it's broke and when you take it back they give you instructions how to fix it

I agree that it's far from perfect as a workaround but would like to take a look at the pdf if you can post it. As I mentioned I am also running Win 7 64 bits in french on my laptop.
I have the Omnisphere working after recreating the Steam folder manually. May be it's not related but Stylus RMX is now opening the Authorisation page when starting with the challenge code empty.
I sent an email to Spectra. Waiting since last Tuesday for a reply. So if you don't mind sharing.

somehow i feel like they think im dumb or what. after i asked how about to just give me/us a new installer?
"Installation on a second computer is no problem and there are three options available to you now:
1. Copy your downloaded installation directory to an external drive. Connect the drive to any additional computers you wish to install the upgrade from. (Each additional computer would already need to have Omnisphere 1 installed prior to upgrading)
2. For convenience on fresh installs, we now have additional full download installations available that registered users can purchase for $10.
CENSORED
This is the full 60gb Omnisphere 2 installation, so you do not need Omnisphere 1 installed in this case, making it much simpler. If you have a reasonably fast Internet connection, this is a nice option and you can get as many download installations as you need 24/7 in the future too.
=============================
I recommend this:
3. You can also copy your full STEAM Folder to the same location on your second computer, then install the Omni 2 software with your host closed.
Here are links to the the Omni 2 Software (Mac and Windows):

You can also install to an external and when it is hooked up, open the plugin and it will ask you to locate the STEAM folder. Navigate to it and the link will be created. You could do this on multiple computers.

as an IT professional... you should know these types of things happen everyday...Caine123 wrote: im no f**king beta tester for them.
things "always" fall between the cracks...
here are five numbers... 1,2,3,4,5...
show every combination/permutation without duplication and ommission of these five numbers...
that is just five numbers... imagine doing the same with all the variables in Omnisphere 2...
in other words... Sh!t Happens!!!
as an IT professional you should know that!!!
right? maybe?
