Is Gouryella - Gouryella (Original Mix) too poppy for the list? That was one of my favs.

No I don't think so, it's a bit arbitrary on my part really but I didn't want to just put every trance track in existence on there. I think I'll put Gouryella on therebjporter wrote:Is Gouryella - Gouryella (Original Mix) too poppy for the list? That was one of my favs.

Speaking of suggestions: not sure if someone else likes Harald Blüchel's music, but for me trance classics playlist would not be complete without him. He was a half of Energy 52 project and his most popular artist name is Cosmic Baby.

Anyone else still playing this, top to bottom? Anyone started again at the top?
It's hard to find modern trance that's as good as the tracks in this list, but try
Maybe we ought to start a different thread for great modern trance.

Please do, I'd like to do a modern trance playlist as well, again primarily for myself but for everyone else who's looking for music too.garryknight wrote: Maybe we ought to start a different thread for great modern trance.
Suggestions would be appreciated as I missed a lot between 2006 - 2012. In fact it's hard for me to keep track of it even today.
Lovely track btw!
So, I might extend the classic trance list to 2005, (10 years ago now!), and do a Modern list from 2006-2012.
2012 - 2015 can be post-modern trance.

I think the list could have some more stuff from early 90s.. like 1993-94.. I am at #110-ish I think, but when it is this far in (about ~2000ish) I think the "trance formula" becomes more apparent and the tunes get more filled with supersaws, brakedowns and vocal hooks. So less introverted and minimal to be swapped for more energy and bombastic hooks .. like more beer-party than rave-party. It's like the arena trance/EDM of today is creeping in...
The track above is ducking quite heavily, and I can't say I hear that in the old vinyl releases ... It's audible even 3 secs into the track!
Also it features many big-spectrum sounds which I think the old songs lack, the olds ones are just less dense and reverby.
The cosmic baby track is just so simple in it's construction in comparision.. It's like.. oh let me start the 303 now. Let me twist the cutoff for a minute now. Ooops, better mute the kick on the drum machine, because it has played the same loop for 3 minutes now! Compare the wimpy kick at 1:01 in the CB track with the (spectrum rich) kick at 0:17 in the anry track.. they are just decades apart

It's a bit of a tricky line to walk, I want the list to show how trance progressed, but also be personal to the tunes that I like.
As to the early 90's, I just don't have a whole lot affinity with what I've heard, it was before my time.
I left in a lot of the big commercial stuff because it shows what happened to trance and a lot of people, including myself, still like a lot of it. Still, I might dwindle it down a little bit more. Hard to know how "pure" to make it as Trance has always had a broad fan base.
+ some of the older tracks are sort of acid-house or psy, at least to my ears.

That's true for a lot of stuff back then.larm wrote:The cosmic baby track is just so simple in it's construction in comparision.. It's like.. oh let me start the 303 now.
