(new user, using RC in VST mode, so far so good, plugin could be a bit more responsive)
not sure this has been discussed already:
when adding a phrase with the generator, it is wishful to adjust the notes manually, however, this process is time consuming, if this should be "rapid" it should be possible directly in the preview window that shows the phrase, or at least, editing the phrase should update the phrase
Not as now that user has to press edit, the edit, then save new phrase, then delete old, then select the new, then find the right spot for the new one inside channel, then adjust lenght of phrase, then still having this phrase taking up a slot in this phrase list.
(Maybe I am missing something, it is strange that the process should be like this in "Rapid" Composer;))

Hi snrsnd,
If you double-click on a phrase (generator) and edit it, there is a long button 'Apply Changes To Phrase In Composition' which will replace the phrase. There is no need to save it first in the phrase library. In the latest beta version there is also an 'Add To Clipboard' button.
The VST plug-in was recently rewritten from scratch, the one in v2.84 is the old one. I suggest that you should download the beta version with the new plug-in which is more reliable and responsive.
Thanks,
Attila

Playing around with the demo so please excuse me if I am not knowledgable enough to know if this is already possible.
In the VST version, need to be able to select GM midi instrument mode and need to be able to send program changes for that. Right now when right clicking on a track in order to specify an instrument (on a track that does not have audio enabled), the RC dialog has the Instrument drop down greyed out and there is no options for selecting a program change to send either.
The assumption seems to be that if this is being used in a VST host, then program change would not ever be useful, but sometimes it definitely is, like perhaps if its being used to send midi to a GM plugin which responds to program change on each channel to set the sound. OSX has a nice built in GM soundfont plugin for example that works that way.
Another feature request, compile as Logic/Mainstage AU Midi FX.

For the chord pallete and chord progression builders and for the progression rules, etc...need to have more possibilities for non-diatonic chords being part of a harmonic space. Secondary dominants for example are common place. But there is more than that. Modal interchange provides many opportunities for various commonly used chords which are outside the traditional diatonic harmonic space, but actually still can resolve back to the original key...thusly are not true key changes. Just listen to numerous beattles songs amongst many others, which do this on a regular basis. I'd like to see more capabilities to build harmony space rule sets that extend further beyond typical diatonic constraints to make it easier and more intuitive to explore chordal possibilities outside of the typical 7 diatonic functions.
I'm just demoing the program and learning now so maybe its there already and I can't see it, but it seems that the program has basically the 7 diatonic chords in most cases, but then every imaginable variation of those, with tension notes (ie, 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths, suspensions, flatted fifths, etc), but not neccessarily modal interchange possibilities...secondary dominants, or other common chord substitution and chord progression possibilities.

Hi Dewdman42 !
I tried many times to talk about it in different ways, and maybe it will go ahead after it will be possible :
1. Simple and easy to program their own rules - suggestions for building harmonic of the master track (including the actual controller via MIDI)
2. Ability to use several alternate master tracks .
But Attila already knows all this, and he's working on it.
I was also very interested in this and Attila always find interesting solutions!
Thank you!

Hi Dewdman42!
Thank you for your comments.
Up to now it was not requested that program change is sent to the VST host, I'll see what I can do.
BTW the VST plug-in was completely rewritten from scratch since v2.84, so you can use multiple RC plug-in instances in the VST host, each with its 16 channels.
I will need feedback from the community how this could be added the most logical way.
Thanks!
Attila
Thank you for your comments.
The way it works is that you need to set up the virtual instrument in your host, I think this should be always possible. The host is responsible for storing the internal states of all plug-ins, and this includes the instrument selection.Dewdman42 wrote:In the VST version, need to be able to select GM midi instrument mode and need to be able to send program changes for that.

Yes, this is planned during the summer.Dewdman42 wrote:Another feature request, compile as Logic/Mainstage AU Midi FX.
You are right, these are missing but would be important.Dewdman42 wrote:but not neccessarily modal interchange possibilities...secondary dominants, or other common chord substitution and chord progression possibilities.

Hi Attila!
I do not know about the practical implementation, but as a basis (to expand the range harmony), I would certainly take "The Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization" George RussellI will need feedback from the community how this could be added the most logical way.

Again, respectfully request you allow us to send Program Change. On OSX there is a free GM plugin included with OSX that can play multi timbral GM soundfonts. its very useful and free with OSX. But it does not provide any way to supply presets with sounds setup on all 16 channels. You can only choose which soundfont to use, but you can't specify which GM instrument to load on each channel, it just defaults to piano on every channel. The only way is by sending it a program change. It very well might be that once you send the program change and it configures itself to some setup of instruments that this would be saved with the project, but of course from RapidComposer there is no way for us to do that initially, and the situation can often come up where we want some VST host to host this GM plugin and work with different midifiles or different RapidComposer compositions, without reloading the plugin...and need to be able to have it respond to whatever composition or midi file is being sent to it...always using program change to change the instrument sounds. That is a very basic tenant of how GM midifile sequences are handled.musicdevelopments wrote:The way it works is that you need to set up the virtual instrument in your host, I think this should be always possible. Additionally to this, when we use your midi file import feature, from GM midifiles, the program change is usually there. The import should preserve that program change as part of your instrument setup, optionally so, even for your VST version. Obviously if someone decides to they could disable it.

If I end up buying the program I will definitely try to formulate some ideas and shoot it your way.musicdevelopments wrote:You are right, these are missing but would be important.Dewdman42 wrote:but not neccessarily modal interchange possibilities...secondary dominants, or other common chord substitution and chord progression possibilities.

Hi Attila,
i remember you said this will cause mess the phrases
but
i want to suggest one more time "Half Phrase" 1/2 , 1/4 speed down...
it would very useful at least if available only as a Track Variation. IMHO.

Hi yellukhan,
will you send me an e-mail (or post here) to explain how it should work? Maybe I am getting older but I don't remember talking about this...
Is this about making the phrases twice or 4 times long? Or you would like a track playing with half tempo?
Thanks,
Attila

Hi Attila,
i am not sure how to describe this, because
making the phrases twice or 4 times long Or track playing with half tempo seems like different in technical terms (i guess
)
seems making phrase twice or 4 times long is close to describe to what i try suggest.
basically i am using most of the time "Resize Mode : Scale" for this and again most of the time just 1/2 slow...
for example original length 32 scale to 64...
if i want to slide to the specific part of the phrase its getting a little painful with current scale method.
(ill send email)

is this is suggested already?
would really great if we have stop option on Generator's Preview (for example middle click to Preview button to stop)
edit: there was goodman's request already so +1
btw. as a quick tip i just found :
middle click does great job if you want to change chords without auditioning / previewing chords in palette
so Thanks Attila!

Hi Attila, I was generating an 8 bar melody and a few times there were parts, like the end and the middle, that really suited the track I was working on, I was wondering if it could be possible to have an option to lock these notes while generating more phrases and keeping those notes in place.
Cheers D
