When is the "Desktop" version due. And what will the upgrade cost for existing Custom Show owners?

There is no specific public date yet, and pricing has not been set.

We just added a video of the new Looper in action, since I've had some questions about that here it is:

The pricing is what's worrying me the most to be honest.
But I guess I'll just sit back and wait.

so, Amplitube 4 for iOS is really desktop Amplitube 3.x with a visual makeover. nothing new there at all, that wasn't available before on the desktop version. i hope Amplitube 4 for desktop isn't going to be that.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

It is more than that, it is a huge upgrade to the iOS version that, yes, uses the desktop algorithms directly. That may not sound like much to those who mainly use desktop audio products but it is a big deal on the iOS platform. It also is in no way an implication of what is coming for AmpliTube 4 as the main things we needed to do for the iOS platform to make it the top guitar gear app for the platform was (and again, using our prowess on the desktop was the best way to achieve that goal):

1. New sound quality improvement based on our leading desktop version
2. New Loop Drummer functionality and improvements (which is unique to iOS)
3. New iPhone recorder master section (and 8 tracks) - which is different than the desktop Recorder/SpeedTrainer
4. Cross-over IAPs (buy one use everywhere) which was implemented earlier
5. Post FX (we do have the rack in the desktop version, but there will likely be routing improvements overall but not likely 1:1 with the iOS and desktop versions)
6. New GUI improvements more based on iOS 8 styling than what might go to the desktop (understandable since this is a touch interface and desktop still is mainly not touch-based)

These were some of the main drivers, and while we brought the best part of the desktop version over for what should probably be obvious reasons to most, and also made changes that made sense for the platform which is something we've been savvy to as we've been in both markets from the start. Both paths will evolve with what makes sense to the platform we're developing for.

This time, a main driver to help AmpliTube reclaim its leadership status on iOS was to bring our expert technology from the desktop completely into the fold on iOS. Neither platform is meant to completely replace the other, though lines can blur in the workflow between the two.

Way to go, Peter, congratulations!

Sounds amazing. A shame that I am on iOS 7.0 with no intention of going to iOS 8 anytime soon.
Why the heck do you need a minimum iOS 7.1 for the new Amplitube???
:(

Because a .0 version of any OS is more likely to have issues than the latest point version. Is there an issue with 7.1 for any of the apps or accessories you use? I would think it would be more stable than 7.0.

Post

i would rather ask the reverse question - what issues did you encounter with 7.0 that you had to go with 7.1 as minimum :)

Yes. That was what I would be interested in... :)

I never did get around to updating to 7.1, and then 8 was introduced. At which point, downloading 7.1 was no longer an option through Apple. I know a few people who are still on 7.0 and are not interested in upgrading to 8. So loss of in app purchases for companies that have 7.1 as the minimum. ( no big deal, there's probably not that many on 7.0, right?)

Post

Who said we had issues, Burillo? We require iOS 7.1 because it is the latest (ok -edit- iOS 7.1.4 should be, technically) which will be the most stable on the OS level.

There's no conspiracy theory, sorry to disappoint.
