imma open a lawsuit, this cannot be! ;D

demo'ing TS2 atm and dunno if the upgrade is worth so far. dont hear much difference yet.
Well to me that's the whole idea. To offer the same quality with less CPU efforts and some new features like switching on/off each stage or the wet/dry knob for example (which I remember asking them to add to the unit).
The only thing I'm not sure about is if the new "12AU7" circuit is a whole different one than the "FAT" mode in the V1...
yes the wet/dry knob is really nice so far, but where is the FAT button?
so far i didnt hear a difference between the two units in my demo sessions.

I just quickly tried the FAT mode in front of the 12AU7, both at 50% (on a 808 beat). The FAT mode is a bit louder and tends to saturate more than the 12AU7 which feels more natural.
Well now I'm thinking that they should have left the FAT mode so we can switch between these
three colors...

i dont get it about the FAT in TS2 now, hmmmmm it doesnt impress me so far to upgrade for $50 :/
have to dig more but with having the Soundtoys bundle with Decapitator i think i might pass to upgrade.

I'm just saying that I tried the FAT mode (V1 plugin) in front of the V2 plugin 12AU7 mode and it's definitely another color. Nothing similar to the 12AX7 or the 12AU7.

To me the upgrade price is a bit expensive. Like I said in another post, it's pretty unfair for us (existing customers), because a new customer could buy the Tube Saturator 2 at 40% off in the next black friday sale. Nearly the same price as what Wave Arts offer us to upgrade... :?
I upgraded because I thought that the possibility to bypass each stage, the wet/dry knob and the more reasonable CPU cost justify to do so.
But honestly I don't think it's a really fair upgrade price. Kush is offering the same price of upgrade for the Clariphonic which is now $199 bucks. Just my 2c...

need to check the video asap ahahaha as i dunno what oversampling does. but which knob is now the FAT knob? cause there is none :(
you could dial in drive in the past without FAT.

I'm actually saying that the FAT mode has "disappeared" in V2. Now there's just the 12AX7 and the 12AU7. That's why I'm saying I'd like to see it back, because FAT mode doesn't sound like the others.

ouch :( i dunno what FAT really did but i love it!
without it i dont see ANYthing why to upgrade for my taste atm :(

All the FAT switch did was increase the gain to the first amp stage so it saturated slightly earlier. It was neat to have that, but no big deal for me. I can replicate that any number of ways.

You're right, I just checked the manual, my bad...
Yes no big deal on my side too as it is just a matter of gain. :)
Thanks for yous input !

from ts manual: FAT switch alters the bias circuit in first triode...

it differs from simple increased gain before first amp stage...so, no...in no way you can exactly replicate this feature if missing

What about ganged controls across multiple instances?

"The FAT control alters the bias circuit in the first triode amplifier to
increase the gain of the first stage. The result is increased saturation."

I understood it as a gretter sensitivity to the input signal, like just decreasing the threshold where the triode stage starts to saturate. :?
Can you elaborate what's your understanding about it please ?
I'd like to understand how this works according to your opinion.

TS2 is always in FAT mode, so the first triode stage includes the bias bypass capacitor which increases the gain of the first stage. It would have been cool to keep the FAT switch, but it doubles the amount of model data (already 200M), and I decided it would be better used to having two tube types. Switching the tube type really changes the sound a lot. The FAT switch is very similar to increasing the drive a tad.

Note also, TS1 uses 12AX7 tube and EQ is always pre saturation. TS2 defaults to 12AU7 tube with EQ set to Post saturation mode. So if you set TS2 to 12AX7 tube and switch EQ to Pre saturation, you will get something very similar to TS1 in FAT mode. Its not *exactly* the same because of esoteric details. In retrospect it might have been better to have TS2 come up in 12AX7 EQ Pre saturation mode to match TS1.

sorry, but theres no "threshold" with real tubes...only typical compressor got threshold=it compress /if above threshold/or not compress...but tubes ALWAYS saturate and compress /more or less/
and thats also why you cannot substitute different bias with different input gain - you will NEVER obtain the same results, at least with real tubes

Yeah I know what you're saying, I also know that one can only use the "threshold" word in the dynamic processing world. English isn't my native language so the closest word to what I was thinking about was "threshold". It was a poor choice of word, definitely. Sorry for that... :?
I was thinking about the spot where the input signal starts to really sound driven/distorted.
Anyway, Bill's statement was pretty clear. Now we have a kind of constant FAT mode...
