It looks like you could pay for 1 month for Platinum which then gives you serial numbers for Addictive Drums 2 Producer and Melodyn Essential and take advantage of any 3rd party upgrade offers.
You would still own the 3rd party software if you stopped your monthly payments as they are serial numbers registered with the respective companies.

Seems like a gaping loophole

This question was brought up some time ago, so CW is aware of it.

In short, it's been addressed - if not exactly trumpeted - so I'd very surprised if anyone could get away with this plan.

Dunno, seems pretty easy, unless they shared customer details withe the 3rd party providers.

I've paid 1 month, I now have Addictive Drums, melodyn, Sonar, Bifilter etc installed.
How do they stop me using it if I cancel my subscription?

Playing devils advocate here by the way, I pay for all my software....... I'd be a rich man if I didn't lol

Heya,
Thanks for the heads up Cakewalk.

I have an unusual feature request,
because you have probably forgotten about PSYNII DXi.
I joined the Platinum wagon about 2 weeks ago-
and I just really want the PSYN II.
The sequencer is cool, but I am happy with Orion as a DAW/sequencer.

I have 3 requests regarding PSYNII--
1. as with all the DXs the window is the wrong size, and all within the frame draws weirdly in other hosts.
So could we possibly get the correct window boundary?
2.With each windows timer refresh, the helphint flashes.
Could we get a steady helphint, or none?
3. This is the most mega, acest synth I have played for years,
but DXi is almost over with. If a VSTi was possible,
I would be ever so grateful.

Your latest PSYN junky, nix
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

so, to those that subscribed to SONAR more than a year ago - was it worth it? did they fix bugs and improved usability issues along with adding new stuff?
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

There is no subscription. People can still buy it for a one-time fee and keep it forever. They just get more additional features for another year. Drum Replacer was the first major feature we release.

We starting doing this in Jan 2015 so only been 4 months. Here's a list of the new stuff we have released in addition to all the new features we announced in January.

You couldn't subscribe a year ago; the subscription plan has only been in effect since the end of last year. But for the time I've had the sub, yes, it's been worth it.

hm, for some reason i thought it was longer than that... OK, i need to get some sleep now :D

but anyway, the question still stands. i constantly watch the "what's new", but i'm curious what actual users think of Sonar's performance thus far.

They have fixed things, but to fair they have also broken things, with pretty much every new feature. Some of them they have sorted out. It's a mixed bag really. They have shipped a reasonable update EVERY month at the very end of the month since they started though, so kudos on that. Some of the new features have been pretty decent. The new content is nice, but nothing exceptional. They really need to update their Command Center, which has major missing functionality. They are talking about that, so it might happen.

I've been using Cakewalk since the 90's, as a rule they have never been very good at addressing bugs and issues. They have designed their entire support structure to make it almost impossible for their dev team to even hear about an issue. I understand why they have done this, but it doesn't always make me very happy.

For the first time in more than a decade I've started trying demos of other DAW software. And so far nothing I've tried is actually better for the way I work/the way I think/what I want to do (which admittedly has been shaped by Cakewalk products for a long time). On the balance at best a couple of the other DAWs were equal, but I'm not going to go through the pain of switching just to end up with the same. I need something else to be actually better.

I was surprised that nothing else really exceeded Sonar Platinum for me. Next year when I'm asked to renew my membership will be the real test. This year they had a list of features/bugs fixed already and included an Addictive Drums pack that made the upgrade a no brainer. Not sure how I'll feel next year when they pretty much want more money but are only offering a year of unknown updates.

Of course that means if you are using one of the other modern DAWs there isn't any big upside to switching to Sonar either. It's a draw really, if you are running one of the current latest gen DAWs.

Why should I pick sonar over studio one with no subscription and free updates?

Post

Studio one version 3 wasn't a free update, was it? AFAIK, with sonar you can subscribe for a year and then you own it (like a payment plan) or you can pay a flat fee and get updates for 12 months (cheaper but paid upfront). The pricing is fair, in my opinion. The reason I haven't upgraded yet is that x3 does everything I want, and I haven't seen any new features that I have to have. Sonar updates tend to add features and introduce new bugs, so it's always a gamble whether it works right after you download a patch.

Post

Ive installed latest Platinum update but the Drum Replacer isnt showing up under Region Effects.

Is there a folder I can check to confirm its installed?
I couldnt find anything obvious.

Any voodoo to get it detected?

Post

The Drum Replacer is a separate item in the Command Center. So, you might have to install it separately.

It's in the dropdown menu with Sonar Platinum.
