Dude, you do not want a tablet but a slim PC with touchscreen, which is something else. Part of the tablet concept are simplicity and streamlining but you just want to make use of the usual clusterfucked which-one-has-most-feature-programs. If devs should start developing touch optimized programs for Surface Pro 3 they need to simplify them to match the touchability with the iPad. For all the usual DAW and programs, Surface Pro is nothing but a plain Netbook with pen control. If that is what you want, the surface is perfect, otherwise, it ain't.

Well, if you need so much the "real tablet" experience (for what that means) on the Surface, just install Android on it (in dual boot or virtualizing it). As far as I am concerned, owning the iPad2 (iOs 8.3) a 10' jellyfish whatever Android tablet and the Surface3 pro, I can tell you there is a huge difference between using your fingers to play the (however cool) "mobile music apps" for ipad/android and using those same fingers to control, play and program instruments like Dune2, Sylenth1, Zebra2, Massive, Serum, Electra2, Synthmaster, Kontakt, Reaktor, Reason, Live, Reaper etc. etc. etc. ...IncarnateX wrote:Dude, you do not want a tablet but a slim PC with touchscreen, which is something else. Why would I need Android for a tablet experience when I have an iPad?
There are only one or two decent music apps for Android (Caustic 3 is one of them), while there are hundreds for iPad. I already have an Andriod tablet and the experience doesn't compare at all, simply due to lack of apps. There are also lag, latency and midi problems.
I also got a laptop with a touchscreen but it suck for the reason given above.
And now you want me to fuse these two insufficient "tablet experiences" into one that can only be twice as worse. And that besides from the fact that you are willing to make your tablet OS even more clusterfucked by dualbooting.
No thanks, mate, but I wish you the best of luck with your hybrid experience. Maybe you will only have to wait a decade to try it out with some apps.
Well, as said, best of luck

No shit, Einstein! That is actually an argument against using touch control for these synths because it will be in vain even trying without a pen. Did you miss that part in the above?mhog wrote: I can tell you there is a huge difference between using your fingers to play the (however cool) "mobile music apps" for ipad/android and using those same fingers to control, play and program instruments like Dune2, Sylenth1, Zebra2, Massive, Serum, Electra2, Synthmaster, Kontakt, Reaktor, Reason, Live, Reaper etc. etc. etc. ...

Seems the ipad killer will be the so-called "ipad pro" or "ipad plus" that should come out in 2016: osx based, 13 inches, Logic, AU. For now, the rumours are Windows 10 will be able to load both Android and iOs apps (Animoog included, I guess).trimph1 wrote:Are we still looking for that iPad killer?

I think the problem is that this discussion is considered another "A is better than B" agenda. My whole point FWIW was that i wouldn't buy an iPad if i was serious about music making on a touch device when there is a device i can run my desktop apps on. The desktop apps might not be fully functioned to support touch devices yet, but it will come, and actually it's no wonder that the priorities are others for the time being, as we're all aware of (i hope) it's a rather small market, and companies will have to decide what they spend their ressources on. So as long as not 90% of the users use a touch device, they surely have other priorities than providing the ultimate touch experience. At least for now.
Again, only my opinion. Guess one has to repeat that a couple of time to prevent people from thinking preferring one thing means necessarily bashing on the other. Although an iPad would be the last thing i would buy from the money if i had it spare. But i'm not a big fan of tablet PC's anyway.

I think the "this rocks, that sucks" fanboysm dipends on the fact all these devices are rather expensive, then once you invest so much money, you want your device to be the coolest one and tend to consider the other products crap. Just like football, or so. It's something psychological, I guess. The ipad is a cool tablet with tons of good music apps, and I would never replace it with an Android device. But everything remains "smartphonish" (so to speak), being it a smartphone (no difference at all between it and an iphone, apart display dimensions). For professional music software on a tablet, the only way for now is the surface pro, or similar Windows based products, alas. Otherwise I would have bought an iPad pro/plus if only Apple had made it (being myself a Logic lover).chk071 wrote:I think the problem is that this discussion is considered another "A is better than B" agenda. You can do alot with an iPad using Audio Bus and there are tons of nice instruments available for iOS.
Personally I prefer to mainly use my iPad as a controller app for my DAW with things like Omni TR, Lemur, etc. Android can run many of the same controller apps (though it couldn't run Omni TR or Alchemy Mobile)
As far as I know Lemur hasn't been ported to Windows yet, which is a big downside to using it as a touch controller.
I would go with the iPad Air 2 as you know everything you will want to do on a tablet can be done there because its the first platform music mobile apps are released on... If you want to save some money the android one should be fine if you are ok with it being the second in line to get apps (or not at all). I wouldn't get a surface personally as its stuck in the middle of tablet and computer functionality wise and fails to execute either well for music production or control (IMO)

Just the other day actually. I actively develop Lemur templates so I am pretty in touch with the current state of LemurT-CM11 wrote:When was the last time you checked? 2005?Voice303 wrote: As far as I know Lemur hasn't been ported to Windows yet, which is a big downside to using it as a touch controller.
Note: I am not talking about the Lemur editor, I am talking about the Lemur app itself which is iOS and Android only.
