Hi,
Can anyone direct me to instructions how to sidechain to Trash 2 in Cubase 5?
I regularly use Cubase's stock compressor to sidechain - here, I just activate the sidechain button on the compressor, and then it will be available as a send. However the same thing does not work with Trash 2.
(I've also tried this method: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/su ... in-cubase/ - didn't see why this would work in this case, but tried anyway - didn't work...)
Is it a comparability problem with Cubase 5, or what am I missing?
Thanks!

You have to use Quadra channel work around. Just search Quadra channel side chain Cubase on Youtube.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I did try that (it's the method I linked to) but didn't work - just got a message from izotope support tho who say i'd need to use the vst3 version - i'd been using the vst2. Will give it another go later, but I'm wondering if it'll be much good for sidechaining the kick anyway - the lowest attack time of the sidechainable envelope is 10ms - i'd usually use 1ms or less (ie quickest possible) for ducking the bass from the kick. Maybe 10ms fine tho, will report back if I get it working.

OK, I got the quadra group channel method working with The Drop, but still no luck Trash 2, either vst2 or vst3 version.
The whole quadra thing is a mystery to me - any audio parts (ie to be ducked) that I send to it's stereo channel seems to lose 6db of volume - obviously I can compensate for this, but is this normal?
Also, the trigger signal (eg kick) that I send to the Ls Rs channel is still audible until I insert/activate The Drop - again, no problem, but is this normal? And, with Trash 2, the trigger signal is audible even if Trash 2 activated - plus no side chain signal is detected in Trash 2.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Also, is sidechaining easier in Cubase 8? eg in cubase 5, sidechaining is a breeze with the stock compressor - you just click the "sidechain" button in the compressor, and then the option appears in any audio/vst's sends to send to the compressor's sidechain. In cubase 8, is it this easy to sidechain to 3rd party plugins?

Yeah, Cubases engine got a major overhaul in 6/7 that made side chaining far easier. I also recall VST3 being doable in C5 but VST2 sidechain routing was an utter PITA.

Indeed, the only thing I can really sidechain with ease in in Cubase 5 is the stock compressor - however you can't do it with the multiband (or maybe by the quadra method, but then you're into PITA territory) hence trying to use other plugins to duck only certain frequencies.
Izotope support have been very useful and confirmed that Trash 2 will sidechain easily in later Cubases, so it might be time to upgrade!
