This could be a compound problem. For starters, I'm finding a few plugs are having problems in Windows 8 most likely because they haven't been tested properly on that OS. I know 8 is technically "old" now but most people hate it and have gone back to 7. I don't even dare upgrade to 8 and I'm not even sure I want to go to 10 when it comes out.

As for the 32/64 bit thing, if your OS is 64 bit, you're likely to run into problems running a 32 bit plug. You can try bridging it but honestly, I don't think it's going to matter. I can't get this thing to work "properly" in 3 different DAWs with and without bridging so I'm not even going to attempt an OSC this month.

Try bridging it and see if it helps.

Just don't hold your breath.
Don't know how complicated is bridging on other hosts. I just installed plugin (Win7 64bit), started Reaper, selected plugin, works. Same procedure as on WinXP PC :D
Try creating and storing a preset and then recall it. For me, hangs the DAW up for about 30 seconds before it loads.

If nothing else, plug is not optimized. Understandable since it's brand new and almost certain to have problems as many people are unable to run it.

I'm happy for you that at least you'll be able to enter this month. With luck, maybe we'll get 25 to 30 entries.

I'll try it tonight, but most SE synths run fine in 32-bit Studio One 2 running under 64-bit Windows 8. I place the entire plugin (dll, and any subdirectories etc) in C:\Program Files (x86)\Vstplugins for S1 to find it. (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Vstplugins\pluginName)

Less than 2 more months till Windows 10... that should be teh pwn :borg:

psmacmur: Yes, that's it. I can run it now !

Ha, certainly a quirky thing, this one!

I've played with it for a few hours today and got some decent sounds out of it but it's certainly not intuitive :)
I'll probably enter with something but will probably not go as deep as in the last two OSCs...

I would enter if I could just be sure it's not going to blow up my DAW.

just a quickie - thought this worth mentioning:
Getting a huge DC offset on some patches (in factory bank as well as my own) These so far seem to be only associated with OSC1 (will let you know if it happens with OSC2 later)
Having to use WG Doffset to fix it - this does work when used on each separate instance :)

I'll also be interested to obtain either percussion-creation instructions or percussion presets. I played around with it for a couple hours and failed miserably in my attempts to create good kick/snare/hat sounds. For example, when I think "snare", I think "sine" for Oscillator 1 and "noise" for Oscillator 2 --- and that doesn't appear to be an option here.

If someone else figures out how to make decent basic perc sounds, I would greatly appreciate either instructions or handy presets.

thanks!

Those are only initial attempts at drum patches, but maybe they can be helpful.

Layering is of course one way to use oscillator 1 as both sine and noise :)

The pitch envelope is unfortunately unusable for percussion but the LFO works like an envelope in sync mode. You just have to find the right combination of waveform and tempo to have it so something close to what you're after. A bit hard though since someone forgot to put an LFO amount control anywhere :P

Delay level is also a strange thing to leave out :)

Used Animehaus's snare patch, and spiced it up with some layering / limiting / compression / reverb and eq+rez:

Sometimes I am "surprised" at the choice of synth for OSC 8)

Post

Hi,

i´m the creator of Mantra Evo! I must say i´m very surprised with this choice for OSCs...

1 - I´m a very basic user of SynthEdit (where this synth was created), i´m not sure of many things and i released the synth considering psytrance sounds (yeah i was a little addicted to psytrance for a long time).. the pitch envelope is on a evolution stage as the whole synth... the idea of this synth was to create a FM synth combinned with a phase distortion synth under the same roof. Oscillator 1 its an FM synth and Oscillator 2 Phase Distortion synth (both under the same roof) (i do not know if someone is messing this out, but this is what it is)....

2 - The synth runs on Win XP/Vista/7 and 8 - 32-bits ... if you get an error message when loading the synth just try to run you DAW "AS ADMINISTRATOR"...

3 - watch out for the filters when using some parameters of the LFO

4 - like i said im a very basic user of SynthEdit and im an amateur musician, so dont expect much of technical language, so DO NOT make complicated questions!

5 - basicaly with SynthEdit i bought a "modular" and started to plug wires without the slighest idea of audio engeneering, this plugin its one of the creations after sometime using it and pluging what i know!

Anyway i like it!!!

Thanks,
Duarte V.

:tu: Thanks for stopping by Duarte, and you are too humble really. The synth has been quite solid for me, and definitely has a unique sound. The quirks definitely make it fun.

I think part of the awesomeness of Synth edit is that it allows anyone to make something without a lot of the knowledge, and concentrate on the sound, GUi, etc.
