I just want to make sure this doesn't get lost in the thread. I've used Attack and Release but it doesn't come anywhere near the function of X Fade. So could we please have X Fade back in the Wavesequencer as in version 7 and before ? :)

Can someone test the CPU usage of this patch please ? :

I'm not ignoring the xfade issue. Is just something that will take me some days to code...

It's hovering around 22% on an i7-4790 3.6ghz

Thanks for checking. Do you think that is excessive for a patch that has 2 Sample Players with Arps on and a 3 Osc module ? I could optimize it a bit but there's no oversampling or HQ. Tal Reverb adds a bit.

No, not really. I've found that ws8 can get quite demanding on cpu though, particularly with granular stuff in the sample player, so probably needs managing quite carefully.
Interestingly, with this patch it doesn't make that much difference playing three notes simultaneously over just one note - about 28% compared to 22%

This is what I'm finding as well.

So your test returned 22% demand with one note on a 3.6 ghz CPU ?

I fear that CPU demand may be an issue for more complex patches. :?

EDIT; Quick test. WS 7 with all four sample layers loaded and all in HQ mode about 20%. WS8 with 4 sample player modules loaded with HQ off about 50%. (This is using FL Studio's meter which is not an accurate representation of actual CPU demand spread out over cores but is useful when comparing loads between two sources).

Keep in mind that I'm using Sse optimizations. So things are mostly dobe in blocks of 4 voices... also, I haven't optimized all stuff yet. Mostly the sample player and filters.

Ok I wasn't aware that there were optimizations still to be done. I'm just reporting what I'm finding during testing. Here's a more relevant test. Same legacy patch in WS7 = 7% in WS8 = 27%.

Is it possible to change the text colour? I wanted to use the brick one but it doesn't go with the blue text so I am using grey for now.

Currently working on the XFade option. I also fixed the mute-on-load preset problem too.

The Wavesequencer will have two modes: I & II. The first is the current mode, polyphonic no-xfade, like an Extended ARP. The next will allow you to use the XFade option in a monophonic way, just like WS V1...V7 had. The advantage is that you can set different XFade values. For stuff like Drums Mode I is still the best mode, while for some sort of complex PADs Mode II will be better.

Sounds great ! Best of both worlds.............. :)

And I'm fixing the layer selection thingy. So now if you have 2 layers the ceiling will be 2. It does work better, txs for pointing that out.

Post

Cool ! So if we have 8 layers the ceiling will be 8 ? That's a great solution. :)
