Discuss.

In all honesty, I find the Superwave synths a bit gnarly around the edges sometimes, the highs can really suffer when doing sync or narrow pulsewidths for example. But despite this, I've found it quite compelling, and the Ultimate Oscillator is set up in a fairly unique way and produces some big sounds that you couldn't get with normal unison or supersaws, because you can set and modulate each of 16 waveforms, detune them individually AND as a whole, plus you have two parameters - detune and stretch - so you can get a wider variety of timbres from it.

The morphing oscillator (which is really a crossfader, but whatever...) is also pretty neat and is I believe Chris Kerry's creation, which I quite like and consider some of the better custom SE stuff.

The prices have dropped and Ultimate is now 40 pounds, not 120, so in terms of VFM it's shot through the roof somewhat :)

I'm going to keep playing with the demo but I'm curious what people who bought it and have lived with it a while think if it.

I own most of their line and love the sounds they produce, even if they all sound a bit similar. Superwave is among my favorite analog synths out there.

Just got a mail from SuperWave, seems they have made a special version of the Ultimate, Equinoxe, which is dedicated to Jarre music.

I was curious when I got the mail and it said New Product in the second line :) Actually I was hoping they made something really new, but instead it seems a mere face lift of the Ultimate, which I never liked, though...

Then again, since they did something more or less new, maybe they are restarting their business, which they had more or less abandoned. Maybe there will be something completely new from them in the future. Alternatively, removing bugs from their older plugins would not be bad, either :hihi:

And, does it have a good smallstone-like phaser?

Chris (just listening to the oxy4-demo - they failed in nailing the flanging-RMI-lead sound :D )

The Equinoxe is all right, it has good sounds that you find in their other ones, not too crazy about the presets.

I understand your points, but they are both screaming life on my computer. Trying to figure out how to allow all notes in FShizzle amp sim, thing is 2 low pass filters go into a 4x multiplier and I think I need to try other filters.

SynthEdit or not, only 32 bit, but that can't disguise that it sounds absolutely marvellous, without using hardly any CPU

Well worth digging up a year old thread

Usually I dig far deeper, but try to limit myself

Mac version yet?

I have to say that all Superwave synths hold a special place in my heart. Synthedit is pretty much dead in the year 2015, but Superwave synths are locked into the history books as being great for what they are, and will always be a valid part of the VST world. There are lots of synths out there old and new, that, that could not be said about.

True enough. I wonder if those still persisting with synth edit/synth maker could have put the wait time for a 64 bit version to better use and learnt to code properly without relying on an outdated third party products.

Still, having said that and looking at kvr as an example, make something free or dirt cheap and there'll always be a gear whore who'll snap it up and believe 'developer' spin.

I was listening to JMJ Equinoxe the other day and was amazed at how close SuperWave has captured the sound of olde analog synths. I now own Equinoxe VSTi but not Ultimate.

If synth edit is crap, then the developer must be a genius.

It's a pity he doesn't have manuals for any of his products though.

Anyway, them's my thoughts on a 2012 Thread in 2015. ;)
