The following scheme also fixes it, but it's not a practical solution: In Bidule, If I separate out the MIDI note offs, delayed them by 500 ms, and merge them back in with the original MIDI stream; no more hung notes no matter what I do. So, every MIDI note off is repeated 500 ms later. This obviously is a problem for repeated notes, but it does confirm what the problem is related to. I tried shorter delays, but I could still get it to happen. I guess the fix is to not exceed the 10 voice limit, but that's a pain.
I wonder why this is happening only on Iris 2? Very strange.
SC, thanks for taking the time to try and help me. If you have any other ideas, I'm all ears.
Actually, I found that the simple 500 ms Note-Off delay merged back into the MIDI stream works fine. This also makes no sense, but Iris 2 seems happy with it, so I'll take it. I am very confused by all of this.

I was wondering about that as well, but I thought it just looked that way to me. I've been using Bing, as I've wanted to get away from Chrome. However, this reply is through Chrome. Let's see if this is better.
This is not the same computer I'm having my audio problems on, by the way. And, quotes look fine from my computer on other forums. Maybe I'm haunted?
Nope, they're still screwed up.

I wondered also, and it is odd, regardless of your machines, or browser.tdm wrote:I was wondering about that as well, but I thought it just looked that way to me. Doubtless, yet another feng shui anomaly.

That is a possibility. The {old} wrapping seemingly innocuous objects in aluminum foil trick, may work. Though it can be a bit frustrating if protracted, the likelihood of instant gratification is always possible as well, if you are 'attuned' to the feng, and don't shui too much.Sampleconstruct wrote:Don't, you'll break it!tdm wrote:Hey, there's an idea: I'll rearrange my furniture!
Standing in a tub of ice-water while chanting kumbaya, and very slowly pointing the foils-tube at various objects beforehand, is "said" to increase the odds of narrowing-down the culprit(s) causing the anomaly. YMMV [2c]

Can I at least remove my foil hat and matching sports jacket? Very uncomfortable to sleep in.
Seriously, I wish there was some way to figure out what is going on. This is the reason I still use a Korg D32XD for recording and an Ensoniq SD1 for sequencing; they may be limited, but they don't do weird stuff like this. I've only gotten into the plugin world in the past five years; I couldn't resist the sounds. But, I've heard too many horror stories from DAW users to go there; everything is a moving target. Yeah, I know, I sound like an old geezer . . . which I am.

A long shot which is probably not the problem seeing as it only happens with RT, but some keyboards send velocity 0 instead of a proper note off message, so synths have to be programmed to deal with both. You can check in something like midiOX, and also run it in cantabile lite and use the GUI keyboard to rule out your keyboard/midi in. Probably not helpful but worth a try.tdm wrote:Can I at least remove my foil hat and matching sports jacket? Very uncomfortable to sleep in.Shabdahbriah wrote:That is a possibility. Seb at Bidule suggested the same thing. One thing strange about the SD1 is that it transmits Note-Off velocities of 64 all the time. I set a filter up in Bidule, but it didn't make Iris 2 happy. According to the MIDI spec, a Note-Off with a velocity of zero is all there is. There is no other kind of Note-Off . . . is there?

Oops I meant a note on with Velocity = 0 is also used sometimes. I would try with a GUI keyboard to see if the problem persists, if you use windows Cantabile lite is free (and excellent). Velocity of a note off is irrelevant really as note off should only have one use and the message type is enough.

A Note-On with a velocity of zero instead of a Note-Off? Wow, that's really strange. I'm on a Mac, but I'll see what I can find, virtual keyboard-wise. Thanks.

I didn't use a GUI keyboard, but I recorded a MIDI sequence that created the problem into a Bidule MIDI recorder, and then played it back from that Bidule recorder, not from my keyboard; it produced the same problem in Iris 2.
I used a MIDI monitor in Bidule to capture the playback and went through it note by note to make sure every Note-On was followed at some point by a Note-Off for the same note number. In other words, no hanging Note-Ons were found.

Iris 2 is on sale for $149 so the emails keep telling me. I am an owner of Iris 1 and guess how much it is to upgrade to Iris 2?
$149 it appears!!
I contacted support about this but they have fobbed me off! Not impressed at the moment!
Anyone else noticed this or have I got my wires crossed?
