Hi,
I want to buy a pair of studio monitors just for listening and not for mixing. I expect accurate and neutral sound mostly for orchestral music and some movies... Read some great reviews about presonus e4.5 and e5. Just wondering if e5 is worth the extra money or e4.5 is enough for my needs and room which is 12*15. Also read from some users that presonus produces some hissing noise.. so I am thinking if I should go for m-audio bx5 d2.... but i do not like back firing.... I am confused... any help is highly appreciated.....
only other options i have in my place
yamaha hs5 and krk rokit5
Thank you!

I bought e4.5 about 2 weeks ago. I like them a lot. They are very well built and accurate in mid and high freq. I can hear the mid and high in details. Now, for the bass they are not bad but it can't give you the same details of course due to their size. Anyway, there are good subwoofers also from PreSonus that you can buy later if needed.
I have a small room about 3m x 3.25m. So those are perfect for my room.
The e5 has every monitor with its power cable, but e4.5 has only one because one monitor is active and the other is passive.
I have no problem in hissing or other noise. They share the power socket with the desktop computer ...etc. So I hope it stays good like this

Thanks for your suggestion engee. Also do they get loud enough or is there any distortion at louder volumes?

Well, they can get loud without distortion, but how much loud? I mean I don't usually put it loud. The monitors are facing me in triangle setup with the volume of the monitors at 11 o'clock. I did test different positions and setup and ended with the default setup, and put them not so close to the wall above wooden open shelves with the foam feet attached to the bottom of the monitors. I suggest to download the manual and read it before buying it. I found it very useful.venky wrote:

Now, I'm not saying these monitors are the best, but here in NZ, they are the best I could find for the tight money I have. In your place, it might be a different case. As el-bo said, the jbl lsr305 is a great monitor, but here one monitor (left or right) of jbl lsr305 is exactly the same price for the pair of e4.5 (NZ$350). So, it is not only about how good they are but about how much other monitors are?
For example, one Yamaha HS5 monitor is NZ$399 (it was NZ$500 just few months ago!!), while e5 pair are for NZ$500 and M-Audio Carbon BX5 pair are for $550.
Another thing is what kind of music you will be doing mostly? How exactly is your room? does it need acoustic treatment? Are you using the monitors for professional work? Will you using them for music production only? Mixing? Mastering?
For example, the e4.5 is perfect for me because: I'm hobbyist, I have small room full of things, I don't do edm or dubstep or any heavy bass based music, I needed nice monitors not only for music production but for games and entertainment with easy setup. Lastly, every cent counts because I'm poor!
Anyway, I'm almost sure whatever monitors you choose from your list, you will be pleased with. The e4.5 for me is like listening to my headphone without putting something on my ears! So, they are that good
So, do your homework and know the limitation before you buy. Good luck
p.s.
I just re-read your post:
if there is no big difference in the price between e4.5 and others, then you might be happier with others, but if it is like here in NZ, then you mostly will be very pleased with these monitors.I want to buy a pair of studio monitors just for listening and not for mixing. I expect accurate and neutral sound mostly for orchestral music and some movies..
I love to hear the music of a game called "The Witcher 2". It is all orchestral based and I love to listen to them in the e4.5. Everything is so clear, so for movies, Orchestra, Jazz, (maybe) Rock or synth Pop I think they are excellent choice if the price is reasonable. They also consume less power

I really appreciate for taking time and writing this. I think I will go with e4.5.
All the reviews say jbl lsr305 is the best but here in India it costs double as e4.5.. Thanks again

+1 on this. I would just add that the only noise I hear is from the wifi. To be noise free i have to turn off the wifi, so if your goal is to stream movies you will run into issues.EnGee wrote:I bought e4.5 about 2 weeks ago. I like them a lot. I don't have such noise while using WiFi. But I have the router in the living room. Is it maybe because of the router? I have no idea!audientronic wrote:+1 on this. That's good. Mine's in the livingroom too, who knows... I'm on a 2011 imac, the speakers sit right next to the monitor, and it crackles whenever data is being uploaded or downloaded. It's not a big deal, something somewhere isn't shielded enough, but I doubt I'm the only one who will run into this. I live in the city and there's easily 30 wifi signals my machine picks up at any one time. But it only crackles when I'm doing something, so I'm sure it's the imac's signal.EnGee wrote:I don't have such noise while using WiFi. But I have the router in the living room. Sorry, I meant the speakers are not in the living room near the router.audientronic wrote:That's good. Mine's in the livingroom too, who knows... Anyway, I think I understand your situation because when I was living in the previous residence (it was in the city centre) I had many problems with noise when using the WiFi. Now, I live in a calm area not near the centre. But mostly, I think it's because of the WiFi adapter itself that causes noise which been transmitted to the speakers. Try to change the sound source to another computer or mobile phone and see if the noise still there.
Edit:
Another important thing that I noticed is the mobile phone! I keep it about 2 meters away from PC, monitors and all my equipments. If someone calls me, I notice some noise even if I use the headphone and the speakers are off! So, I think it is better to switch it off when recording.
