William, I have every faith that you are working hard on the issues but I am of the opinion that releasing WS8 before there are significant reductions in CPU demand would not be good.

I'd hate for you to have to deal with negative reactions on initial release.

WS8 because of it's open architecture will allow us to create massive complex patches and never before heard of sounds not possible in any other synth but if those patches cause so much CPU demand that they are not practical it kind of defeats the whole purpose. That's why I suggested multi-threading as a possible solution.

Anyway I just want WS8 to be the best it can be.

Trying to use preset search seems to be crashing every host I have tried so far on Mac - Tracktion 6, Reaper 5, Studio One 3, probably all if I try them all.

I agree, people accept that betas are not complete and need further optimisation but may not be so forgiving for a final release. Take your time to get it right, take a leaf out of how u-he do this. They did not rush out Hive or Bazille.

What an amazing patch....whoever did that must be a genius.............. :hihi: :P
:hihi:
OK you made me search for that patch but WS8 keeps crashing when I try and use search so you'll have to tell me what bank it's in.

Fear not, the following days I will be working on a BIG code optimization update that should speed things up by a high factor, and this will be ported to Wusik 4000 & 8000 along. :hyper:

The search function is not done yet, sorry about that, I need to add some extra code for it to fully work. :dog:

To be fair, they also released Diva, the cpu crushing super model,
which is very popular, despite _ussy whipping i7 processors on occasion.
Perhaps a range of quality settings could be coded?
Diva has three or four quality settings. From Divine, to grunt :hihi:

Yes but they optimised it as much as possible first and ensured it multi threaded and had different modes.

WS8 does already have different levels of oversampling but the problem is even at the lowest level it is using too much for some patches.

Famous Key-01-Tek. :hihi:

OK it's using about 40% for me with oversampling off, 2x moves it to 50-60%, anything higher is unusable

Which is one reason why I mentioned multi-threading for WS8. I don't know how hard it is to implement, whether it requires an entire rewrite or is something that is rather trivial to add to a plugin but really I think most modern synths could benefit from a multi-threading option. :)

What is the CPU on your test machine ? :)

Sure, but the only ones I can think of where it works well are Diva, ACE, Bazille and Dune 2. They tried implementing it with Blue and it didn't work properly so I think it is challenging, u-he and Synapse seem to have got it cracked though.

That's a powerful CPU. My studio computer is an i7 3.0 but I haven't installed WS8 on it yet. This machine which I'm using for testing is a Quad Core Q6600. It's an older CPU and I think it probably represents the low end of CPUs that potential WS8 users might have...........

Are your test numbers from your DAW's CPU meter or from Windows Task Manager resource monitor ?

That patch shows 81% with just three notes held, no oversampling in FL Studio's CPU monitor which is notoriously inaccurate but is good for comparisons between version 7 and 8 of WS. Window's CPU meter shows overall 24% to 28% but of course almost all the load is on one Core. FL does support multi-threading from the host side.
