I don't know about you, but I prefer having tracks that are all just about the same volume throughout. Ideally, exactly the same volume. Also, all the "note changes" and "chord changes" that people tend to throw in, just rub me the wrong way. I prefer the same note repeated for quite some time. Ideally the whole track. And drums should not deviate from kick 1,2,3,4 and 16ths hats exactly the same level. Other, more unique percussion sounds should be left out. And at most 2 instruments. It just doesn't get better than that...mehum wrote:... I felt that mastering was a bit...overdone. Many tracks just don't peak when they should.

Too much variation for my taste. Whatever happened to 3 minutes of nice white noise at -6dB?z.prime wrote:I don't know about you, but I prefer having tracks that are all just about the same volume throughout. That's good. But I think the classic "4 minute DC hum" might top it. Those were the days. When people were making real music.mehum wrote:Too much variation for my taste. Whatever happened to 3 minutes of nice white noise at -6dB?

This just needs to be remastered to modern levels . Also, where's the drop ?wagtunes wrote: Still too much.
An idea came up, why not make an interpretation of this for Osc76?

hahaha I just read this right before coming here and seeing your post: http://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/the ... hes-583096z.prime wrote:I don't know about you, but I prefer having tracks that are all just about the same volume throughout. "Obviously, anyone who makes dance music has an encyclopedic knowledge of music theory, and once you've acquired a thorough understanding of melody, you too will realise that intervals are in fact a waste of time.
What's more, if you've EQed your lead to sound good in a certain key, playing different notes with it is just asking for trouble! Keep things simple by smashing up all the notes on your keyboard apart from G3, a technique known as 'The Guetta'."
Anyway, finally finished up the voting. Also moved the average down to 2 to have more room for variation in all the above average tracks.
I kept going back and forth about this, cause it means I have to give out more 1s than I usually would, and a few of those I quite like.
But in this case 2s are solid average tracks and 1s are close, but something here or there just stopped it short. There really were no "bad" tracks. And since everyone is moved down (except the 5s) I'm not screwing anyone. I hope. if you're track is one of these and is 1point off from tying one of my 5s, feel free to hate me.
Good luck everyone, really great stuff!
