Also I have posted some patches for Mantra Evo here:

their value seems dubious but there they are none the less.

Just in case anyone missed it :phones:

Thanks for sharing your patches, Richard... very useful, good sounds

Hey, for a kick, maybe try rez at 95%-100% plus a filter env? Is the synth capable of using a filter env (OSX here)?

EDIT: I would love to try this synth on OSX, but the dev deleted my suggestion. EDIT: Oh I now read, it's synth edit based... :clown:

This track is appropriately named after fighting with this @#%$ thing for 15 days.

Had to freeze almost every track. Could not save presets as they wouldn't load back without hanging up the synth. Controls are totally whacked. I have no idea what this thing is going to do next. And to top THAT all off, this is the first synth since my Moog back in the early 80s that I had tuning problems with.

Tuning problems!

Anyway, here it is.

7 Instances of EVO used.

Plugins used:

Voxengo free Curve EQ
Cubase Compressor
Cubase Mono Delay
Cubase Morph Filter
Limiter6

Somewhere in this mess there is music.

I never want to see this synth again as long as I live. LOL.

If you just want to try Mantra EVO, you can run it on OS X with the program VFX:

Unfortunately, I was not able to properly connect VFX/Mantra EVO to Logic Pro X :(
I'm now trying to produce a song with Mantry EVO on my Windows partition, cause I really like its distortion effect :D

OMG, #76 has already started?!? ...I gotta have a look at this synth then!
Cool! :hyper:

Trying to get all the prizes eh wag? :hihi:

It's a fun ride if your daw is compatible.

I take wag's message as a fair warning. With all my heart and loads of love to OSC, but what the freaking ey were you thinking when you chose this synth?!? :-o ...that's like, OMG #76...or so...it's freaking hell! I will dedicate myself to writing a synth for all of us, honestly. I thought it was rough to deal with #75, hahaha, but this thing...my god it's dreadful.
Has anyone yet managed to get a simple key sound out of it... the decay at max is like a numb little thump, and the sound...the sound... ARGH  ...ok, ok, I shall keep all my bitchin' in this post, but I'm sooooo, sooooo sad I missed all the good synths. :(

Or a drum sound? I wonder, if I will find the secret trick to get a pitch envelope that somehow does what one would expect from a freaking envelope... not like some arbitrary delay before it suddenly decides to go up to a sustain level...
I mean, I'm ready to put up with the most insane dial implementation ever, but at least turning those dials to some values that make sense would've helped. Oh man...yes, yes, I should give it a bit more than half an hour, but wow... what a first encounter of terror, haha. :dog:

Anyway, I'll write one, I'm ready to make a vow that I will.

Hmmm, wonder if Jbridge somehow destroys it? That might make sense then... but if it's meant to be the way it is...pfff...ay caramba. :ud:

Post

Yes the envelopes are a pain.
The best trick for keys is to use a long-ish release with a short decay (the only kind on this synth) and no sustain, play notes quick for a long decay, press and hold for short decay. Awkward, but it works. I often use this method for snares and hats.
Best method I've found so far for the kicks is to use the LFO for the pitch mod and then adjust the main envelopes decay to cut the repeats.
Check out the soundbanks posted at the beginning of this thread, and also the KVR page for the synth at

Post

Thanks Richard, I already was afraid that release would be the only way.
I'm already having a little drumset going. The kick is weird, sine with a quick filter drop that kind of gives something interesting. I haven't yet played with the LFO. Boy, am I scared to do that, hahaha. :dog:

Naaah, na, nah, I shall not check out other presets, for I am waaaayyyyy to prideful, hahaha. No, really, I want to wrestle this thing as far down as I can on my own first and then maybe later I may have a look. Kind of the same procedure as last time (#75) and most probably as always. I may bitch and moan everytime, too, hahaha, but man...this thing is one hot mess. I almost can't understand how they came up with that...have those developers ever made music with a synth or where are they coming from? So strange...

Post

You can see the developer's take on it a few pages back.

And yes, it's a mess but I've begun to find some ways to tame it... Or perhaps it tamed me :P

The LFO is...nearly unusable for normal stuff. No way to control LFO amount which makes it nearly unusable for subtle movement. But the ramp setting works pretty well for kick since the default setting retriggers every note.

Pitch bend is...uniquely implemented in that it bends three octaves up and down. Fun fun fun!

It's supposed to be one FM and one PD synth. I think Osc1 is FM but feels nothing like it.

Trying to squeeze a certain sound out of this probably has the potential of driving you insane, so the best way to deal with it might be to just aim somewhere and see where it takes you. Then take the Zen approach when you get slapped. Does MuLab automute when you reach some super high output? If not, put a limiter and a high pass filter on your master ;)

Post

Yeah, I'm right now letting IT take me for a ride, pfahaha...oh my.
The LFO can do some vibrato, if you set the 2nd to detune and tweak the tuning up there. I sense that there are a few things kind of buried or hidden in a way. I think, this thing is completely insane, but- hey- it's a challenge, isn't it.
I'm already half way into a song, though...or at least a first test. I don't know, if I can mix this thing right, but I'll give it a try.

Besides, what's with the delay times (not that they matter, because I most certainly won't use it, but ... HUH?!)

Doffset and scope 04.jpg
three things to note here:
1. the low frequency on SPAN looks very high
2. the peak signal on the right is high
3. the wave form in s(m)exoscope is clearly above the line - and it has taken the kick with it.

Here is the same sound (ish) when corrected:

:)
A dcfixer seems to be nothing more than a high pass filter, some of the renoise devs wrote. I read that dcoffset mostly comes from a very low frequency (that actually seems to be present here) and can be also fixed by using a high pass filter.

So maybe add a hpfilter at the first insert slot of every instance, first (or dcoffset device in Renoise)?

EDIT:
xenobioz wrote: Also you might add a 1 pole hp, as the last module. If the last module is amp the put it before the amp. Then you will not get any DC. You can even set the pitch 0 I think and, it will still remove the DC.
But why as last module? Wouldn't an early dc offset already mess up some dsp processing? Or doesn't it matter?
