Let's see. Apple sees a piece of software that's in a class by itself, is loved by many and sells like hotcakes. They say to themselves, "Hmmm, let's buy out this company and turn the software into a piece of trash that only Apple users with the brains the size of walnuts will use."zvenx wrote:I really don't follow the logic at all. Unless Apple is always the de facto bad guy?

Yeah, I think that classifies them as the scum of the Earth.

But Ben had to say yes.
so how is Ben not the one to be blamed? Apple could have asked and he say no.
I really don't follow this logic at all.
To me its like a man seducing my woman away from me.
Am I really going to blame him if she leaves?

It's hard to say no when somebody waves 7 or 8 figures in front of your face. Apple could have gone after somebody else, or they could have done the decent thing and released Alchemy 2 for Windows and MAC.zvenx wrote:But Ben had to say yes.

Who is to say that is what will happen? I think it is far more likely that Ben would not have sold his company for whatever amount of money just to see it dumbed down that way, I suspect if anything the exciting side of the deal would be to see how far he could take it with Apple's backing.wagtunes wrote:Let's see. Wow......This just really makes no sense to me..........I think because CA and Ben et al were so beloved here at KVR that you get 'logic' like above........
It was Ben who deserted us not Apple..... Ben.
However I can't even be 'upset' with him as he owes me nothing and more importantly, if I too were offered a high figure so I never have to scramble again to earn money for my family etc........... I too would have taken the offer........
But to blame apple is just unbelievable, imho.

You are right when pointing out it was Ben (and his Camel Audio partners - I presume he had partners, right?) that after all made the decision to sell and accept Apple terms.zvenx wrote: It was Ben who deserted us not Apple..... Ben.

That said, it was Apple who decide to terminate business and not release something that, allegedly, was basically ready to release.
I have at home two perfectly functional (and actually, very good, even in today standards) Emagic amt8 MIDI interfaces, which I have to trash as soon as I move completely away from Windows XP, because Apple decided to not release drivers for Windows after XP. Should I blame Emagic for accepting the business proposition? Well... yeah, of course, but it's hard to say no to some propositions. Now, did Apple have to follow those business practices after acquiring the assets? That's debatable, but again, it's THEIR business, and we can just raise our voice and show them our dissatisfaction regarding their business practices, because those are Apple calls and responsibility.
Besides, they are still Microsoft partners, there is Office for IOS, Office for Mac, iTunes for Windows, QuickTime for Windows, they released Safari for Windows, what would hurt them to release for Windows something that is already done? The same happened with Logic.

*Everyone* encounters things like this from time to time.fmr wrote:I have at home two perfectly functional (and actually, very good, even in today standards) Emagic amt8 MIDI interfaces, which I have to trash as soon as I move completely away from Windows XP, because Apple decided to not release drivers for Windows after XP.
FWIW, and for the flak Apple get about compatibility, those amt8's still work on current Mac systems (I have one). But then I have other audio devices that no longer work on current systems, and I have to consider replacing something that essentially still works, which isn't that fun.
Life moves on, and sometimes we want to resist it, and sometimes it forces us. It might be Apple one minute, Microsoft the next, some boutique little company that make that thing you love but can't stay in business anymore... and so on.
Have your rants, peoples, but eventually you'll have to make a decision and move on - sometimes it even works out for the better, in the long run...

I've moved on. I still hate Apple. Haven't used anything by them since the Apple III I was forced to use at my job at AT&T IS in the 80s. Ever since that God awful experience, I have been Apple free.beely wrote:*Everyone* encounters things like this from time to time.fmr wrote:I have at home two perfectly functional (and actually, very good, even in today standards) Emagic amt8 MIDI interfaces, which I have to trash as soon as I move completely away from Windows XP, because Apple decided to not release drivers for Windows after XP.

Apple purchased CamelAudio's Intellectual Property. They didn't just purchase Alchemy, a product.fmr wrote:You are right when pointing out it was Ben (and his Camel Audio partners - I presume he had partners, right?) that after all made the decision to sell and accept Apple terms.zvenx wrote: It was Ben who deserted us not Apple..... And yes, maybe they decided all they wanted were the performance pads to be featured as an exclusive to GarageBand and potentially Logic.
Also, people seem to forget that audio plugins are a niche market. They do not have the same mass appeal that word processing programs do. I'm fairly certain, although admittedly speculative, that decisions for building cross platform support were done after heavy market research with the idea of capturing market share and future users... In other words, it was done for business reasons and not sentimental reasons such as keeping users happy with their favorite plugin.
I understand being pissed off, but I don't understand being surprised, baffled or miffed at their decision. Its a large company with large profit margins.
Anyways, I'm guessing we haven't seen the end of the CA integrations yet. It will be interesting but I still don't think we'll see an Alchemy 2.

The performance pad is basically just an X-Y controller similar to those found on many synths. Apple wouldn't need to purchase an entire company just to have them in GB/Logic. Assuming that the performance pad is derived from the purchase of Camel Audio, I am positive that there is much more to be seen.elxsound wrote: And yes, maybe they decided all they wanted were the performance pads to be featured as an exclusive to GarageBand and potentially Logic.

EXACTLY. So, what would be needed is to ask one guy to spend a couple of days writing a new driver for the new Windows versions, and basically they would work again. Apple could even release those as unsupported drivers, for people to use them at their own risk (other companies already did that). Again, I'm not surprised with Apple business decisions, they have been very coherent along the years (unfortunately for us, users).beely wrote:FWIW, and for the flak Apple get about compatibility, those amt8's still work on current Mac systems (I have one). Sorry for the off-topic subject, I will digress no more.
