Or of any generator, for that matter.

pumafred - if you mean how to add rests, right click on an editable phrase to pull up the inspector dialog.

Select the "variations" tool ( 4th tool from the right - the arrow with the notes inside it).

Click "Add" and select "Rests" from the list.

Now, you can adjust the "Rest" parameter to add the rests in the phrase where you want them. May take a bit to get used to adjusting to suit.

Adding silence, assuming your meaning otherwise, is just a matter of deleting a note, in my mind.

Please explain further what you want to do if my explanation is not what you seek.

While you are on this tab in the phrase inspector dialog take a look at the many tools Attila has loaded into variations. There a lot of goodies to choose from ;)

Yes, sorry, I meant "rest". My mother tongue, Spanish, sometimes betrays me.

I meant if it is possible to insert a rest in, say, the Melody Generator, when setting its rhythm manually. In a generator, not in an "editable phrase".

(What I wanted to do, for fun, was to take the chord progression, signature and tempo of a known pop song, and start to generate alternative melodies, respecting the rhythm of the original melody, so that the original lyrics could still fit. Just to hear what happens and, in the process, learn to better use the generator.)

Thank you for your interesting suggestions anyway.

Good question. I am afraid it is not possible to add rests in the phrase inspector, only the way dsan suggested. This will be fixed in v3.0. Although I am still not sure how exactly it could be implemented :( Add a number of rests or percentage...? And the location of the rests... I think rests are typically at the end of a musical phrase, or immediately before a strong beat. I am sure I'll get plenty of suggestions on this forum ;)

Thanks!
Attila
