I know in the past I have not been able to get a ringtone to my iPhone without iTunes, but now that I have picked up a new phone I want to see if I can be completely iTunes free.
Some of the things that were not possible in the past are now possible, like sending attachments with emails using clients that support picking up from file managers, cloud clients, etc. I just wondered if there's any workaround with ringtones - can I download a ringtone to my phone, the Cloud, etc. and then be able to import it to the ringtones folder?

If you can get the wav file into GarageBand on iphone then you can export a ring tone from there.

I was trying to avoid the Garageband solution if I could - I think it's about a 650MB install.
I'm wondering if there's an API available to be able to do what Garageband does or if it's just internally available for Apple devs.
