While I tend to prefer the more precise and alive sound of true Supersaws ( ie big piles of real saws ) like in Lush, Syn'X 2, in the traditional acceptation of this term ( A la Rolanda) Largo, Dune, Sytrus and Sylenth make all nice supersaws. But take all this with a pinch of salt, as the emulation of the classic Roland iconic patch is not what I prefer when piling *saws*. Or other oscillators btw

I found that mostly having an Unison and dedicated Supersaw (Roland like) or Hypersaw (Virus TI like) usually does not produce the same results. Besides that actual Supersaw or Hypersaw oscillators (or cmparable features like in DUNE 2 or the "Überwave" in Waldorf Nave) do use MUCH less CPU than a Unison.Lotuzia wrote:While I tend to prefer the more precise and alive sound of true Supersaws ( ie big piles of real saws ) like in Lush, Syn'X 2, in the traditional acceptation of this term ( A la Rolanda) Largo, Dune, Sytrus and Sylenth make all nice supersaws. a special thing in the Roland Supersaw seems to be that unlike an Unison the distance/detuning of the Saws is not identical for all Saws. In that case also the detuing is not increased in a linear linear manner but more like a certain curve. This seems to ebe done nicely in Diva (and this is also the only one taht includes all oscillator modes of teh JP-8000 like e.g. the Feedback mode).
Before i just sold my Virus TI desktop (around 2 weeks ago now) i took samples of the Hypersaw at different detune amounts which currently i am also using in my Waldorf Blofeld with some nice results.
I did a Blofeld patch that is a layer of a wavetable oscillator and a Hypersaw and tried to "emulate" this with Largo using the included Unison. While the Unison of Largo could sound nice on it's own it is very difficult or even impossible to get a similar result as in the original Hypersaw. As Largo offers up to 4 layers and each with up to 3 "real" Oscs an option is to emulate a Supersaw/Hypersaw using those "real" oscillators instead of the Unison.
A comparable result is also possible with the "layers" in e.g. Syn'X 2. I had done a comparable patch a while ago when the synths was still called Synthix...
Anyway Tone2 Elctra 2.1 since the last update includes multiple Hypersaw modes inspired by the Virus TI (e.g. the "Hypersaw Vir 9x" mode) and this could sound close to identical to the real thing. Also includes a mode called "Supersaw JP" now.

This 64-oscillator freebie is worth mentioning.

A while ago Alex Shore published teh free "JP-4c" Reaktor synth:
http://alex-shore.com/jp-4c/#.VYWpb_ntlBc
This includes a Supersaw module that seems to sound almost exactly ike the real thing.
A while ago i did use this (wit hteh permission of Alex) to create some of my own Reaktor ensembles:

Gotta love DIVA's JP8000 recreation + assortment of filters.
2nd fav is Spire. Can't go wrong with either synth so many sweet spots and easy options.

While Alex did a good job, its important to mention and give credit where credit is due, that his supersaws are based off my research of the supersaws, which my JP6K used (http://www.adamszabo.com/jp6k/). It was the first every VST to properly emulate the famous Roland supersaw, and after my paper went online, it started the ball rolling, and was used in Corona, Diva, Sunrizer etc... (or at least Id like to think that, so my research made a world a better placeIngonator wrote:A while ago Alex Shore published teh free "JP-4c" Reaktor synth:

Do you mean that your papers/research got published somewhere?adamtrance wrote:While Alex did a good job, its important to mention and give credit where credit is due, that his supersaws are based off my research of the supersaws, which my JP6K used (http://www.adamszabo.com/jp6k/). Not that i know much about it, but yes, his papers about the Roland supersaw got indeed published: http://www.nada.kth.se/utbildning/grukt ... _10131.pdf I guess that it has been used as a base for other stuff. At least that would be much easier than doing the research yourself.
Started to read the paper myself today, great read and very informative, even for people who don't like supersaws.

LuSH doesn't only stack multiple saws, (you could do that if you wanted) it also has a dedicated "supersaw" oscillator as well. Which then can be further stacked and detuned (up to 16 voices per layer), and stereo spreaded in unison. And you can use up to 8 layers of this, if your CPU is capable (it most certainly isn't).Lotuzia wrote:While I tend to prefer the more precise and alive sound of true Supersaws ( ie big piles of real saws ) like in Lush, Syn'X 2, in the traditional acceptation of this term ( A la Rolanda) Largo, Dune, Sytrus and Sylenth make all nice supersaws.
