Windows Version is a Beta, but seems to work flawlessly. (read the FAQ though!)
You have to run a small client app on the windows machine, then connect with the iOS App and route stuff from there.
On the PC, the new virtual MIDI ports should show up and you can use them just as regular hardware connections within your system/DAW.

And, yes all those options I listed are using the standard iPad charging cable to connect to the PC.
Awesome thanks, God knows why you couldn't do this with the charge/USB cable in the first place!

But you already figured out why: to sell the camera connection kit. :).

I love my Air 2, but the iPad is the most restrictive piece of computer hardware I ever used. Just earlier today I noodled around with iFunBox and iExplorer for the trivial (or so one would think) task of getting some recorded audio files transferred to the PC without using a cloud service. Eventually I learned that AudioShare now has a built in WiFi server, which did make it easy, but what's so bad about plugging it in and accessing it like a flash drive?

Much easier with my Android tablet, but yes, it lacks in the audio and audio app area.

The clue is in the name really, the Camera connection kit was designed to make it easy to transfer pictures from digital cameras to iPad.

Fringe benefit was you could plug other stuff in too :)

This really did do the trick, worked flawlessly once I'd downloaded all the bit I needed to run in the background. No config was needed apart from shoving an IP address into iC Pro

It's not charging the iPad but I'm fine with that because my iPad air lasts several hours on a charge anyway.

Thanks again, saved me some dollah!

I know this has run its course for the most part, but FYI iRig MIDI 2 is $/€79.99...
