Hey guys (and girls of course ;) ),

I'm currently trying to build my own live-looping/Effects rig using a Vst-Host with a few Vsts loaded and a couple of midi controller (maybe even a custom made Android app functioning as a midi controller).
As a main Loop Vst i use Mobius but now i'm looking for a good Multi-Effects plugin which has a decent range of effects which can be triggered easily and also multiple ones at the same time.
I don't need a effect sequenzer at all as i'm doing the triggering manually.

Currently Sugar Bytes' Turnado seems to be the only option for that which offers everything I want.

I also tried Illformer's dblue Glitch 1 but there you have to use the sequenzer and even when you create patterns with everyone containing just a single effect you can't play two of them at the same time.
All other Multi-Fx plugins I had a look at seem to got the same route or were limited to so few effects that it would be easier to get a seperate vst for each of them.

Does anyone know of any alternatives (the best would be free ones if there are but i don't expect there to be any) or is Turnado just the go-to-solution here?

Unfortunately i don't have Reaktor but I was actually thinking about getting Komplete 10 recently as i was also looking for good synths and was really impressed by massive and the other ni synths.
Reaktor is included in Komplete and it looks like Finger is too but do you know if molekular is in it too or would i have to seperately get it?

Also: It sounds like you are NI software-Users. Would you recommend Komplete for someone just starting up who is looking for good instruments/effects... and only used freeware recently like me?

Btw. I had a quick look yesterday on youtube to hear how they all sound and i was immediately really impressed by finger, optimus prime and molekular. Optimus prime was really cool because of its simplicity. I might be able to demo some of them hopefully around the weekend when i find the time. Thanks for the quick suggestions :)

Also if someone passes by this thread and knows of other alternatives (maybe even some freeware) because i won't get komplete immediately because i have to think before making such a big purchase.

What DAW? Get Ableton live and build your own rack effects.

Surely any Multi combined with an appropriately configured midi controller would work. Hell, if you're using a host then you could just attach midi controls to individual effects if you couldn't find a multi that worked for you.

Turnado is good and I'll agree that it's pretty much the perfect solution here but you could use just about anything as long as you were willing to put in a little legwork to get it all set up.

@Monib
I'm currently using the free Vst Host by Hermann Seib though this might change in the future. Does ableton has some effects build in or would you then have to buy additional effects to build an effects rack? I don't complete get the concept behind it as i haven't used it yet.

@Caysi
I'm actually doing exactly this right now. My whole plan is to use a really basic Vst Host with simple midi mapping and audio routing capabilities (that's why i choose Hermann Seib's Vst Host for now...and because i already had it installed). On top of that i'm working on a Android app to make custom control to control the system however i want. Additionally i will map Midi keyboards, a boss rc - looper and a kaoss pad to it if i find a way to use them properly.
To work together nicely without ccausing Midi mappings to clash i have several midi routing programs i write myself. If you haven't noticed music is my hobby and my work has to do with programming :D

I just looked for a good Multi because it makes mapping the right parameter easier as most effect vsts for just filtering have several faders which are accumulated into one in Turnado e.g.

I've not been around for quite a while so I'm afraid we haven't met!

I'm pretty sure there's already an app for android for making custom midi controllers, Osculator I believe. It may even have functionality to make everything else work well together. As a programmer myself the only thing I can really suggest is to make sure you do your research first. There's no point in wasting dozens of man hours on something that's either already been written or that there's a nice accessible library out there that's been designed for exactly what you need it to do.

There's Glitch 2 by Illformed. Almost the same as Glitch 1 but with the ability to use multiple fx at the same time and many more options... There's also Sugar Bytes Effectrix and their new one which I don't remember the name....

@Caysi
back when i started the project i had a quick look at TouchOsc but i didn't realize that you can create your own custom layouts. Immediately after reading your post i bought it and today i found the time to mess around with it and it might as well be a solution for all my midi-interface - Needs. So thank you for that suggestion :)

@Djnro1
Didn't know that Glitch 2 has the ability to play multiple effects at once. Maybe i'll find the time to demo it in the next days. Effectrix and (I think) Looperator probably pretty much sound the same as turnado so if i finally decide to go the Sugar-Bytes route i might look at Effectrix again as it's a bit cheaper.

For now i'm trying to use seperate freeware vst plugins and "pluging" them together in the host and with a custom TouchOsc-Layout.

My suggestions are already given (Glitch2, Turnado and The Finger), but for your question regarding Komplete... Well, when I just started I didn't dream of spending that amount of cash, but it would have been a good investment (and I eventually got it anyway). It really covers a lot of bases, value for money is great and the quality of NI is just very good.
I'm not sure how you intent to perform live (skimmed through the thread, but didn't read every last word), so the way you're heading with a simple (non-sequencer) host, may be the best. But if you're looking to perform on your own live, with music that is largely loop-based, you should really look into Live. Before Komplete even. It allows you to trigger clips (individual parts of a song) nicely synced with each other... eh.. the demo and youtube are better in explaining than I could here in words ;)
Oh and yes, Live comes with effects of its own - but don't mistake it for an effects machine, it's a different (much broader) concept (although, if set up correctly, you could trigger effects on the fly).
If you're performing in the context of a band, then you may just be on the right track, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

So i realised that because i bought a Focusrite Scarlett audio interface a while back i can get Ableton Live Lite for free...so i did.
Now after installing and opening it I'm quite confused by its interface so i probably need some time to get use too but i already saw that even in the lite version there is quite a big array of built-in effects. Now i know that there are some limitations (namely those listed here: https://www.ableton.com/en/products/live-lite/features/) but i'm not sure yet if those will be much of a problem for me.

First a question: Can the Max4Live (with Turnado4Max or how it's called) be used with lite or do you need intro, the full "normal" version or even suite?

Now to explain a little about what i'm even planning to do.
Short version: I'm trying to make a really really simplified version of the Beardytron 5000 (here is a link showing it off a bit though you might need to skip to 1 minute to avoid the Beardyman's craziness ;) )

Long version:
Audio input coming into the system through 2 (or more) microphones and also vst Synths controlled through a midi keyboard. This audio goes through an effects chain and then into a Mobius Looper vst with several Loop Tracks set up (currently 8) Each tracks feeds its audio into seperate effect chains to allow applying different effects to different tracks at the same time. (Here i thought about adding another looper + 8 effect chains so that you can record the looped audio with effects again though i don't think i need that actually. The audio then finally feeds to a single Audio out. All effects/plugins will be controlled by midi controllers (hardware or TouchOSC).

The only limitations i could hit with lite that i can think of right now is the track limit as from my understanding of it after about 30 mins of chaotic testing i would need:
Track 1: Audio input + vst Synths -> input effect chain -> Mobius
Track 2-8: Effect chain for each Mobius track
2-8 send into Master
Again i just tested it a few minutes so i don't really know if this would work or if there is a better way.

Btw: I really appreciate all of you helping a music making noob like me understanding all of this :) You are so great :)

Max for Live can only be used with the full version of Ableton Live 8 or Ableton Suite 8, Ableton Live 9 Standard or Ableton Live 9 Suite.

Here's an overview of what audio fx come with Live:
https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/live- ... reference/
Here's the midi fx:

I can't find a list of Max For Live plugins (probably because there are so many) but a look at maxforlive.com and Live's Packs will give you a good overview. There is everything from complete modular systems to spectral fx to basic midi utilities ...
