Guitarjeff Proudly Presents:
The Persian Metal Symphony Orchestra
Named after one of my favorite scales. Using the Persian scale makes harmonizing in b5ths sound really good. What could possibly be more metal than a Flat 5 interval?
It's My first contest entry and uses all VST instruments (mainly Sonic Synth) except for the guitar which is a real Les Paul!
Enjoy! (or not)
Bang thy head!!

Kiken-Ga-Ippai
http://www.markleford.com/music/files/0 ... aippai.mp3
Japanese jazz-guitarist Kazumi Watanabe's "Kiken-Ga-Ippai" is quite literally my favorite song EVER (from "Mobo Club", my favorite album ever).
I always knew I'd do a cover of it, but never could have guessed it would be in this form! In a stroke of playful inspiration, I've taken his jazz-fusion tune and warped it into a math-metel blazer at 150% the original tempo and the distortion cranked up!
I did groove-up the middle section, though, so don't be scared!
I guess this is my little tribute to his 1984 gift to me, 20 years after.
(Oh, and I take the title to mean something akin to "Danger Is Everywhere": not to be confused with the Dragonball Z theme of the same name!
)

In keeping with George's recommendation back at the beginning of this compo -thanks pal- I tried somethiing in the spirit of the maestro Steve Morse, who in his typical classy way, at the end of one hot take utttered the following: "I refuse to scream." So I hereby take his advice to heart with:
I Refuse to Scream
Very sloppy guitar playing done in one take with no overdubs (and which I in no way presume to approach Morse's genius) was me on an Ibanez Artist 120 (Cherry red)tuned normally -no drop tuing for this old man- preed through a V-Amp2 direct into Sonar with no plugins. Drums- Sonic Reality Drum Capsule
Beautiful Baby Prod kit in SampleTank2 programed with MusicLab's Slicy- and Fillin-Drummers; Bass and Organ patches played in SampleTank2. Produced me in Sonar 3.1.1. Mastered in Adobe Auditon 1.5 with TRacks Eq DXi with touch of Sir reverb for polish.
Of corse for the rest of you screaming is optional.
Good luck all!

and here it is - MY first entry into a contest!
And I can be as
METEL
as I wanna be! When I was still learning guitar I went through a metal period which included listening to bands like Judas Priest circa Screaming For Vengeance and the first and second Michael Schenker Group albums.
So, I give you:
http://dreibel44.spymac.net/07_04_dreib ... ingmad.mp3
"Pig Biting Mad! (More METEL Than Jarl! Mix)" started out life as another Garageband jam on my Power Mac G4, but then got transferred into Cubase VST 5.1, where it was tweezed into shape and then had some VSTs added on - Kompakt was used with an EXS sound package of a large Ludwig kit, FM7 provided a pad for the Floyd-like opening, and the "guitar lead" is actually from the demo of reFX's The Beast played with my Peavey Falcon/Roland GM-70 MIDI guitar setup!
The crunchy stuff is my Peavey Predator Plus, newly fitted with a Seymour Duncan JB and two GFS single-coiled sized humbuckers, played through the Marshall model of my POD 2 (the lead that opens it is a fuzztone patch), and massaged with various EQ and plug-in effects within Cubase. The Dreibelbass also goes through the POD.
The title comes from the favorite pet phrase of Ed Anger, a psycho opinion columist in the US supermarket tabloid Weekly World News (sample rant: "The Smurfs are turning our kids into wimps!" ) And Jarl? "Jarl Sigurd" is the name of a notorious USEnet spammer and troll who's been disrupting the guitar newsgroups by proclaiming his brilliance on guitar synth, despite the fact that the end results are more like - well, remember Insanity, the band in Terry Pratchett's Soul Music ? That's what he sounds like
Enjoy!

Well, first of all, hopefully this link is working...
http://www.yagushi.com/mp3/Yaguchi01/20 ... uchi01.mp3
I got lazy and just renewed my website with the same company - eventhough I've had major problems (server constantly offline!
) - so the link hasn't been working for me... I pray it works for you!
Anyway, here's the lowdown on my entry...
It's my metel-version of "Buggie Technica" by POLYSICS... well, it's my version of the intro to that song... I just thought it would be cool to replace the vocoding with some Napalm Death/Cannibal Corpse/???-type grunting and throw in some slightly more "metel" guitar riffage! (Although there's not too much riffage because the song's intro chord-progression is ultra-sparse)
In addition to my typical "a couple of instances of Synth1 and a few drum samples" sonic foundation, this track features my lovely coral-pink '66 Fender Mustang via The Rat (with a bit of the ol' JCM900 plug for a little more crunch!) and my super-patented "where's the Isodine?" vocal stylings... Enjoy!
(if my server is willing...
)
edit: Major thanks to You™ for hosting my track! Click on his link below if the link above isn't working... it most probably isn't...
