Cheers for that mate.

Seems a tad strange on their part. :? Considering they seem to be moving away from ilok - or adding different licensing options.
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

They aren't moving away from ilok. They just now allow you to either deposit your license either on the ilok dongle or your harddrive, both require an ilok account.

Says so right on that demo page:
Use this form the generate a 20-day demo license for the selected product. All Softube products require an iLok account, but the USB iLok key is optional (What is an iLok?)

Those Softube engineers have some explosive personalities:

Thanks for the clarification. I have an ilok, so I'd use that option if I was to get it.

That really is one of the most headache inducing interfaces I have ever seen. I don't care what it sounds like!

Welcome.... Apart from the touring musician, I don't fully follow why someone would choose the software option rather than the dongle.....Hard drive crashes and world of problems :-)

Lol. I thought I was the only one who noticed how sedated they looked. Bit seriously, that interface is a total clusterf***. No thanks.

Demoed for a bit, and it sounds better than any other virtual-analog drum synth to me, as expected from Softube. Sad that you cannot load your own samples, hope they will add that at some point.

I already have my Analog Rytm so don't have an immediate need for it, but compared to the Akai Rhythm Wolf this is crazy value for money :D

Edit: And it's $168.95 at Audiodeluxe, maybe Plugindiscounts will beat that soon.

Did I already mention that I found the unfocused interface similar to Sigmund?

Post

Is it pure synthesis only or are there some samples under the hood ?

Post

Some of the machines are synths, some are samples, some can be a mix between them,
with an actual mix knob, see the big vertical Wave/Synth slider just under BD/RIM machine logo here: http://www.softube.com/images/heartbeat ... shot_c.png

It does sound cool in the demos. But gui is kinda wacky though. It's huge, probably covers an entire laptop screen.

Damn... That's a good price!! Cheers for posting that. :tu:

Right, so I've been messing around with the demo for a few hours now. It's funny, as I'd not been all that interested in this, after checking out youtube and Softube's own demos on their website. It seemed a bit lack lustre, and the designers were not the most enthusiastic on the demo video.

I think ST has kinda' done some poor marketing here which is a pity.

However, this thing sound amazing to my ears!! Sounds pretty 'okay' over the compu speakers and youtube (you'd expect some of that of course). But this thing packs a serious wallop when you listen to it on monitors. And I agree with Askol, it's the best damn emulation I've ever heard as well.

Here's what I like so far:

Sounds fantastic! The Drum channel EQs are outstanding (as well as attack, etc). In fact, all the FX are lovely.
Very easy to use - I mean dead simple.
The range of sounds is very extensive - This does'nt really come across on the vids. :(
Nice big GUI - but you can set it smaller if you want too (if you on a laptop).
Nice global saturation and EQs.
Good set of features (for me) - But total beat heads may want more.
Very easy to modify the sound on the fly.
Multi-outs, but it's designed to be standalone.
Mono summing.
Audiodeluxes Price!! I've already got my serial too. Nice one ogopogo! :)

I'm not 100% sold on the chaos thingey... But to be honest I'm not really into that kind of beat making (good for layering tho' of course). But you can do other neat stuff with it too of course, beyond layering (delay, flam, fills, etc.).

Bear in mind, that I've only been messing around with it for a few hours. So, I might have some gripe later on, if I discover a missing feature or whatnot.

Hat goes off to Softube for this one... I really hope it takes off for them. :tu:

EDIT: Okay, I'm not all that mad on the presets (a few are decent), but that's just a matter of taste. But it's very easy and quick to program your own. :)

I have to agree, this one sounds darn good! I think this might be my go to drum synth from now on, and I have a lot of others to choose from.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.
