Max for Live can only be used with the full version of Ableton Live 8 or Ableton Suite 8, Ableton Live 9 Standard or Ableton Live 9 Suite.
The latest version of Max allows to load max4live devices so real need for Live+max4live

Thanks thecontrolcentre for the links. I had a look at them and tried out pretty much all of them.

I now tried to create my wanted track setup with lite and almost immediately hit the track limit with only 5 possible parallel effect chains for the Mobius Track :(
Problems are that
A Vst Instruments can't be loaded on the same track as the Audio Input
--> Track 1 Vst Instruments Sends audio to Track 2 which handles audio input and all pre-looper effects. The audio gets then send to a return track with Mobius in it

B Ableton for some reason makes it impossible to setup a midi input directly in Mobius and bypassing Lives midi chain. So i had to setup a seperate Midi Track to route the midi from TouchOSC to Mobius

This resulted in there being only 5 Tracks left for the Mobius Track Effects.

While i could maybe live with that right now Ableton doesn't have much more to offer for me than Vst Host by Hermann Seib which i used before apart from a few built-in effects i don't have alternatives in my vst collection and a Midi learn Function.
The other big thing that would get me to use Ableton probably would be Max but i would have to upgrade to Live Standard + purchase Max4Live extra or upgrade to Live Suite and then purchase the packs extra. This is quite a lot of money for "just a few more effects" for this project. I understand that i could use ableton live as a "normal" non-live music producing DAW and it also feature a powerful sampler built-in but for the first argument i am way more used to Reaper and the second one isn't that important for my project.

Am i missing something ground-breaking awesome in ableton?
As it currently stands i think i might be better of using a free (or cheap) Vst Host for Live perfomance and freeware Vsts where i already have a lot of and maybe i will get Komplete at some point to get more/better effects and instruments.
This might just be the frustration talking from first setting the audio and midi chain up in ableton and then trying to reduce the amount of tracks needed for the past hours....which wasn't that easy if i'm honest.

You're right, in your scenario, you would just be using Live for the ability to host some instruments and effects. It is just as convenient to use the host that you're using now. Or actually, more convenient because of Intro's track limit.
You could try to ditch the looper and use Live to record/repeat clips (so Live's the looper). But I have a feeling that there are some tricks with loopers that I'm not completely aware of, that you can't replicate with Live. But the obvious advantage of Live over Reaper is the session view, which entire purpose is to loop clips. But it might just be a different workflow than what you're after. (wish I could elaborate some more, but my experience with loopers as Mobius is almost non-existent).

You should check out Sugar Bytes new Looperator - awesome! Rob Jones did a video

Thanks VariKusBrainZ for the suggestion. I'm currently actually trying to create a setup in Reaper as i know it by far the most and i have to say it's going quite well for now. But if i hit problems with performance as Reaper is not necessarily made for Live performance i'm going to check out other hosts and pedalboard2 is now on the list :)

Yes BDeep the workflow isn't really what i'm after and even if the session view and the built-in sample functionality would be good for the project it would probably take me weeks if not months to use ableton as good as i can use Reaper and Hermann Seib's vst host right now. So I'm gonna ditch Ableton for now.

I saw Looperator recently when it came out and thought it look cool and today i took some time to test it out. It kind of reminds me of dblue's glitch and effectrix as it is an effect sampler with more loop and glitch based effects. I wasn't able to trigger effects without pre-defining them in a grid though. So no "trigger an effect randomly for an undefined time and dynamically setting its intensity like you could for example in Turnado. I doubt i can incorparate looperator in my setup as a result of tha. Thank you for the suggestion though. Looks and sounds really cool :)

I'm for now still gonna follow the route: Reaper with seperate (freeware) effect vsts which are controlled via hardware midi controllers + TouchOsc to "seem" like a single Multi-Fx unit when performing. When i eventually really can't go further with an actual one i might look again into Turnado/Effectrix vs. NI Komplete/Reaktor

I think Artillery2 by Sugar Bytes is more what you're looking for. You can trigger different effects via MIDI.
