nice concept. I own quite a few vintage samplers as I love their mojo, particular those that employed analogue filters.
will be eager to see how it sounds.
how long does the intro period last ? (doesn't seem to be mentioned on the page)

I'm also thinking it 'should' offer the ability to sample directly from within projects, would make it much more useful to me.

would also like to see more DAC's in future updates ... and if sampling gets added, some ADCs too.

August 1st is stated on the page.

great... enough time to put the requisite amount of sheckles aside for UVI's new delay plugin and this, if it's sounding nice and the future roadmap looks good.

Nice compact sampler with stretch. Sort of like Ableton's simpler/sampler but with time stretch which I always wanted. Beats the hell out of Bitwigs sampler for sure.

A few problems though:
-The loop start point can go past the loop end, which then does nothing
-There doesn't seem to be a way to lock the loop start and end so that you can adjust one to sweep through. As it is, you'd need to adjust both exactly the same if you want to keep the loop length. Perhaps a toggle to fix the loop length from the start? It's especially annoying with the fact that as mentioned above the loop start can go past the end independently, causing no sound.
-Many parameters are mislabelled in the host. For example lots of them are just called 'default'. Density is called grain size or something. It needs some cleanup with the parameter names. I don't understand releasing it like this.
-That demo sound is horribly overkill.

It's not really trying to be just a compact sampler though, or DAW equivalents... it's aiming for vintage mojo - the sound of reduced sample rates and DAC's imparted to the input sound...

ya, I'd like to see the features that it does have to be implemented well ...so if it can control loop start/end points, then I would agree it 'should' be done in a smart or kool way. So ya, +1 to start point going past the end point should play the sound in reverse (if I'm inferring what you're saying correctly), and what might be kool is a seperate parameter to move the whole loop bracket (as opposed to your lock suggestion)... so you can still adjust start/end points while the bracket position as a whole is also being modulated, if you like.

I've been a huge fan of TAL for a long time. They're Chorus is awesome but I agree with others that the UI design on this is a step back. However, cant judge a book by it's cover. On the demo download now!

Well this plugin has a scalable GUI so is probably not based on bitmaps like the previous plugs.

I'll have time to try the demo later today, but for now, have you guys been able to get "authentically vintage sounding" results out of this?
A well-behaved signature.

Off topic, but I thought DiscoDSP's Highlife was free.
Several links tell me this is true (or at least was), however the most important source, Disco themselves have a price on it.

Did they change their mind on this?

Payware, turned freeware, turned End Of Line, then updated and made Payware again (with the most important feature omitted - VST hosting - which is 99.9% unlikely to ever be added back in again).

Hope that helps! :)

Re your timeline, figured as much. Thanks for clarifying.

The days when computers were weak that sampling VSTs could relieve some of the load on the CPU, are gone.

I think the new HighLife is more interesting than the old :)

It was released as freeware sometime around 2006. It was even open-sourced and some folks started to develop it further, including a version for Linux. Then George had a change of mind and withdrew it. You can still find source code bundles in various places including the original hosting site sourceforge but last time I looked key files were missing so they can't be compiled anymore.

You can still find the free version via the wayback machine though I've no idea what the legal situation would be. I haven't looked at this version so I would check the license but if the license says it's freeware that should be good enough.

Would you consider starting a topic about what new features you find interesting? I waited a very long time for 'the engine' to be put back into the VSTi but was finally informed by the Developer that it wasn't going to happen. Guess I was a wee bit disappointed and didn't see the point in bothering with the Product any longer. Let me know if you do. Thanks. :)

Anyway ... back on topic ...
