What can you do? I don't see what's wrong with using a laptop as part of a live performance. You haven't mentioned what software you have, what style of music, what sort of festival. If you want advice provide some information for people ...
Mann why the bad vibes on this ? I just didn't want to write a huge block of text for what I thought would be easy to answer :?
I use Live, probably closer to psytrance than anything else but i dont really have a genre, its a psytrance festival
I was already planning on using my laptop, I just want to be able to perform, rather than just occasionally clicking from track to track and standing there in between, but I don't know where to start as far as gear. :)

Like if someone asked what they needed to produce music, you'd say they need a daw, computer, monitors\headphones, and maybe a midi keyboard. I just want an answer like that, but for playing live instead of producing. :ud:

Laptop, headphones, audio interface with two pairs of stereo outs, and software like Live, Serato, or Virtual DJ that you can use for beatmatching and mixing. That's the minimum.

Optionally an external controller, either a proper DJ controller or anything with enough assignable sliders, knobs and buttons for the software functions you want to use. A friend of mine uses something like a Korg NanoKontrol only even cheaper and simpler. I use a touch screen PC. If you really wanted to make people wonder, you could use a MIDI keyboard, assign the modwheel to control the crossfader, and not play any notes on the keys.

The good news is, you're already using Live :)

Yeah, I'd do what I suggested, lay your songs out as clips in the Session view, and get a nice controller to trigger them. You might want to add some effects in returns to filter/echo etc sounds on the fly, while performing. So... a controller is what I would think you need :)

He asked you legit question, you really should provide some info to get info, what you use, what you actually want to achieve and all that, all valuable :tu:

"Playing live", what does that means to you for starters, that's valuable info too, if you really think about it, you provided so little valuable info, but hey, now we have all the info :tu:

Look on You Tube what others do (Ozora, Boom and etc), not many are coming without whole thing pre-made just in case and than just hook up controller and twist every now&than, things happen, especially if it's your first time, seriously, just cover yourself so you can have smooth sail, you will freak out and I highly believe you will be only guy sober so you can act on it with cold head, stuff happens, it's backstage of psychedelic festival :hihi:

No bad vibes ... just too little info to say anything helpful. As you have Live already I'd say get an audio interface with 4 outs, some decent headphones and PUSH (or maybe a Launchpad) and you're good to go. Arrange your tracks into scenes in the session view then you can remix them on the fly depending on what reaction you get from the audience. Maybe get a stereo DI box to eliminate any ground loop (hum) problems with the PA system ... also consider that you need to set up really fast at festivals. You usually get only 10 - 15 mins if you're lucky, so don't over-complicate things. Practice setting up your gear as well as playing the music. Good luck.

very wise advice above - follow this closely

Launchpad or Akai APC will fire the clips - you might also wire in a standard keyboard to actually play some(bass) notes(or a slick little lead line) once in a while.

I'd also get a mirror to practice in front of. Idea here is to learn to not make STUPID faces while your music is playing. Play it cool as less is more. Try to make it look like you have done this before.

Then freakin practice, practice, practice between now and the gig

best of luck
