Question Regarding Samples From Akai FTP Site

When the Akai ftp wite was up, I spent many hours downloading most of the samples, which I copied onto CD.
I have just started to import them in VSampler3. I noticed that the guitars cut short (so they kind of sound like harpsichords).
Is this to be expected? Is there a lot of time- consuming mapping that is often necessary to get this sounding decent in VSampler3? Or is there some shortcut that I am not aware of? Do some banks import without a problem, while others are not worth the trouble?
Thanks.

'cut short'.. can you fix this by raising the amp release in vsampler?
I have all the akai ftp stuff but not vsampler so I can't say for sure.

Yeah, its probably not worth it since I probably have better samples elsewhere. I will open import them if there is a particular sample I am looking for. Thanks.

If I eliminated the envelopes, do you think the akai samples are generally pretty high quality? Are they a step above the samples included with VSampler (which, I did not even load because I heard they were weak)?

The quality and usability vary a lot. Splendid Grand sounds pretty good to my non-golden ear. I'm quite pleased with the variety of so-called "ethnic" instruments, though Chinese and Indian instruments aren't represented as well as I'd have liked. Some of the sound effects and ambient noise samples are interesting. Useful? Mmm... maybe. :-)
I'll say this: for the price they're not too shabby.

in general, i thought they were ok. i think you could do just as well with soundfonts and wavs that you can download for free. the piano is very good but you can dl those in soundfont version too. eliminates all the hassle of incessant tweaking.
mabey you should consider the sonik synth group buy. you'll save $100 worth of download time at least, plus you get awesome quality (and quantity) samples that way.

I think the price is down to like $140 now.

Hey, Bigg John. Yeah, I already have Sonic Synth. I think you are saying that, in general, the Sonic Synth is better quality. That's what I had thought.
I think I will not bother loading the akai samples into VSampler3. If there is a particular sound (or sound effect, etc.) I am looking for, I will look into uncompressing and loading the akai samples from my drive.
Thanks for responding.

the akai samples are pretty generic compared to SS. I downloaded some patches for the EXS24 that make the akai samples usable without much hassle. but like i said, the akai sounds are plain.
