Only if you have some VSTi's that run on Linux... or am I missing something? I guess not everyone uses them do thoey? :) Or is it going to work like some kind of adapter in that regard??? Please correct me if I am wrong. I don't mean any of this as a put down or a "proper". :)

Not a expert but most of the vsti's is just a .dll. If enegyXT knows how to use this file there would be no problem.

Post

yeah but isnt the dll created using native callbacks to a particular os?
i dont know im asking out of interest

As far as I know, MUSE (Linux audio program) can already use VSTi's. Vis-a-vis, XT should be able to, too... if its true of course, I could be dreaming that MUSE supports them... :-o

i tell you what though
if XT could be gotten up and running in linux
doesnt this mean that a custom version of linux could be built just for XT
ala final scratch witch is very very stable under live use

Many Windows VSTs will run on Linux using vst-server and Wine.

this is starting to sound very f**king interesting (scuse my french)
but i run final scratch out live 2-3 times a week and it hasnt bailed on me once(even when the 12 blew up and took the lighting rig with it :D )

so im very interested if someone is gonna do the port

i think jorgen may be too busy keeping us bastards happy at the mo though
so this may not be a high priority

Let's not forget the upcoming GMPI...

Post

That looks exciting NicFit, do you know much about it? Lot's of innovative ideas there.
I must admit I had a job to see an "overview" of the idea from that site, how would you describe GMPI in layman's terms :?

I have planned a linux version in 2004. But haven't set a date yet. I have done a lot of coding on linux/eXT already (mostly gui), but I'm not doing the full port until I'm finished with the major features in eXT on windows.

I will do the linux port myself.

I don't plan to support lots of plug-in formats on linux. Only VST, but anyone can make a thin "VST layer" between eXT and any other plug-in standard out there.

Jack support? I think it will be done. At the moment I have only tested with oss (but it's not multi IO is it?)...

8)

cheers
