If I was banished to a desert island and could bring one synth, Omnisphere 2 or Alchemy; I'd still pick Alchemy. Such a shame that we won't get version 2.0 of such a great synth. I don't use apple products so unless apple releases Alchemy to the world as a plugin, I'll never see it.
Uses Live 9 and lots of VSTs

I was just thinking.........I've downloaded and backed up all my CA files but how does one authorize Alchemy in the future if a re-install is required ?
The only way it could work is offline authorization and if so what's to keep someone from just selling all thier files to somebody else ?

I'm thinking you simply don't unless Alchemy already has offline authorization. I don't own it so I don't know. But this is a very good point. Somebody has a hard drive crash tomorrow, what happens?Teksonik wrote:I was just thinking.........I've downloaded and backed up all my CA files but how does one authorize Alchemy in the future if a re-install is required ?

it's authorised by having your personal data embedded within. if you sell your files and they upload it to the piratebay etc, then everyone will d'load an illegal copy tied to your email addy-oTeksonik wrote:I was just thinking.........I've downloaded and backed up all my CA files but how does one authorize Alchemy in the future if a re-install is required ?

So the embedding is actually in the file you downloaded initially?el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:it's authorised by having your personal data embedded within. if you sell your files and they upload it to the piratebay etc, then everyone will d'load an illegal copy tied to your email addy-oTeksonik wrote:I was just thinking.........I've downloaded and backed up all my CA files but how does one authorize Alchemy in the future if a re-install is required ?

If you downloaded all the necessary files, it is an offline registration, no internet required. I was thinking the same thing as you about people selling their copies, but I have a feeling that the installer is smart, and will look for something that pertains to the user, in order for it to install. If not, then yes, it's an all out free for all.Teksonik wrote:I was just thinking.........I've downloaded and backed up all my CA files but how does one authorize Alchemy in the future if a re-install is required ?

I just reinstalled mine, it works ok and my registered info is built-in to it, so I didn't need to authorize anything.Teksonik wrote:I was just thinking.........I've downloaded and backed up all my CA files but how does one authorize Alchemy in the future if a re-install is required ?

yes !! the license key used to be downloaded separately. however, for quite a while the data has been been embedded in each download.wagtunes wrote:So the embedding is actually in the file you downloaded initially?el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:it's authorised by having your personal data embedded within. if you sell your files and they upload it to the piratebay etc, then everyone will d'load an illegal copy tied to your email addy-oTeksonik wrote:I was just thinking.........I've downloaded and backed up all my CA files but how does one authorize Alchemy in the future if a re-install is required ?

if you happened to buy before they made the changes, older projects might still ask for the key. in this case, they still provided the key as a separate file.
either way, there is no need for any contact with camel for authorisation

The worse thing is 2.0 was supposedly done, engine-wise (with some bugs). It was already in the hand of sound designers...Elenesski wrote:If I was banished to a desert island and could bring one synth, Omnisphere 2 or Alchemy; I'd still pick Alchemy. Funny you went right to the Pirate thing........el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: it's authorised by having your personal data embedded within. if you sell your files and they upload it to the piratebay etc, then everyone will d'load an illegal copy tied to your email addy-o
I was just thinking of what was keeping us from selling to each other here......other than of course your personal info is included in the plugin.
It never crossed my mind that someone would upload it anywhere........
I have no interest in selling mine but you never know what the future holds....it's nice to know that in an emergency you might be able to sell it on to someone you trust.
I wonder how many people who sold theirs in the Marketplace recently actually deleted Alchemy from their systems.......

Why would they? It appears there is absolutely no reason to. There is no company to answer to anymore. There is no online authorization. There is no checking for duplicate emails or serial numbers or whatever. There are no consequences to selling your copy and keeping it anyway.Teksonik wrote:Funny you went right to the Pirate thing........el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: it's authorised by having your personal data embedded within. if you sell your files and they upload it to the piratebay etc, then everyone will d'load an illegal copy tied to your email addy-o

Having said all that, I'm still not buying a piece of software (even if I COULD get it from somewhere) that is going to be obsolete once no more operating systems that are still in existence can run it. It might be 10 years from now but eventually it's going to happen with no future support.
Or I suppose you can still get Windows 3.1 and Apple DOS and find a machine that will actually support it.

Ah wagtunes, I sense thru cyberspace that you continually whinge about Alchemy because unconsciously you deeply regret not buying Alchemy when you could, because now your synth collection will never ever ever be complete!

I actually have mixed feelings about it. Yes, I wish I had it and at the same time am glad I don't. I'm especially glad I didn't sink hundreds, if not thousands of dollars into sound libraries.Michael L wrote:Ah wagtunes, I sense thru cyberspace that you continually whinge about Alchemy because unconsciously you deeply regret not buying Alchemy when you could, because now your synth collection will never ever ever be complete!
One of the things I hate more than just about anything in life is having something that suddenly stops working and there is no replacement for it. You know how hard it is to get a VCR these days, at least around here?
And now I have all these VCR tapes that I can't play.
I'm dreading the day that DVDs become obsolete.
With all the VSTs I already own, at least I know (for now anyway) that the support is still there and IF the day comes when Windows 7 is so old that I can't use it anymore because almost nothing runs on it, at least I have the HOPE that my VSTs will be updated to run on the new OS. Granted, that's going to cost me a lot of money in upgrade fees but at least it's doable.
With Alchemy, it simply isn't. Once I can no longer use Windows 7 because everything else I own runs on Windows 10 and above, I'm screwed. My Alchemy becomes true vaporware.
For that reason, I'm glad I don't have it and never got it. Still, I can't help wishing that this wasn't the case because after demoing it I can see what it's capable of and it's a shame that nothing is out there to take its place.
My only solace is that maybe somebody another company will come out with something that does everything Alchemy did and more.
As far as technology has come, there is no reason to believe that this isn't possible.
And it's THAT hope that I will cling onto.
