Here are some basses I would like to share. I hope someone finds them useful. I like the Upright2, PPG and Vintage shuffle bass. I also posted them on the Charlatan banks.

Thanks, Rcl. I keep wanting to share my patches, but they just often don't make any sense outside of my specific song. It's odd for me to share those. Maybe the drums eventually or I make some fun patches for everyone independent from my track. :)
This thing "Charlatan 2" is really nice sounding, though. I get some really solid sounds with it. Cool! 8-)

This is my first upload. I am still kind of a noobie at this. But i have found programming my sounds vs searching through presets or samples is faster and more rewarding. But i do look at, use and reverse engineer presets ( for education ).

I do understand alot of folks use presets and have little interest in sound design. We as people only have so much time to involve ourselves. When you think about it the amount of knowledge it takes to compose, sound design, perform, produce, mix, master and submit an entry for the OSC, it is staggering. Surely equal to a BS degree.

This Charlatan thingy not only is a great place to learn and grow but as stated over and over really does sound good. Top notch,

I have to agree, I have very limited time to spend on osc, but making my own sounds (no presets) is the best part! I do sometimes start with a preset, but it's usually unrecognizable when I'm done messing with it :-) now sometimes I'll use a preset just to get the musical idea started, and sometimes that sound makes it into the mix, so no hard and fast rules. My process is too relaxed and organic to be pure :-D

Yeah, to me making sounds is the whole fun of it, but it's always been that way anyway. I'm really bad with presets, haha, just kinda rubs me the wrong way. Naturally, being a sound design freak by nature, I do get a little anxious, when limitations go a bit far, but this thing makes up for it quite well.
Since I'm using MuLab, which has Mux in its very nature, I can sometimes do a bit of extra stuff with automation, but unfortunately that only works for the overall sound, when you control a vst, meaning it's more or less monophonic. But it is fantastic to make drumsets or any sets of weird fx sounds.

Anyway, my best ideas come from empty patches, haha... sometimes just feeling my way forward by starting with waveform choices and manipulations. At other times I start with envelopes...and so on and so on. It's never really one specific way, but often it's with a specific idea in mind, of course.
Once you're really on top of things, making a sound takes only a few minutes, sometimes even less than a minute, depending on what I need. Desperately crawling through presets would drive me bonkers, hehehe. :bang:

Jeeez...I really wonder what you guys will think about mine, haha... pfff, it will sound as though it was a different synth, hehehe. Only annoying thing is, my track is kinda easy-listening like, which is potentially super boring. It doesn't feel boring to me right now, but it made me think about those guys, who do those "airplane" easy listening doodles and if they also don't realize just how boring it sounds overall.
Ah well... I'll do my best, but- yeah- it sounds almost nothing like any of the tracks so far. :scared: :| :hyper:

I have two e-guitar like sounds in my track, which rely heavily on distortion. I believe, that has been sanctioned before, but I'm not sure, if it's really ok or not. Is it?

Post

Yes, distortion is okay as long as you're not annihilating the original sound with it.
