Dear all, thanks for your input and keep the discussion rolling...

My main DAW is still S1 and I mainly use soft synths for composing Dance tunes so MIDI editing features is crucial to me. Not to mention to save my "Clicks" will be welcome.

Correct me if I am wrong that some DAWs (Sonar?!) has intelligent to change the cursor from pointer (selection tool) to drawing tool or even eraser when editing MIDI note. This is a neat feature. And some times, I will have a one bar long C major chord and then would like to split it into multiple 8th notes instead in order to compare the result. It may take sometimes to manually split. Of course, I may overlook there may be some built-in editing feature to do it.

I think all DAWs have similar editing features (But know that some have more) but I like to have those features more handy and with few clicks to make my workflow more efficient.

Talking about the arrangement features, I found S1V3 got this (Finally). But I didn't compare it with Cubase 7. Any comment on it ?

What the hell is a Midi Logical Editor? Like logic if-then programming commands for midi?

I happen to own Cubase Pro 8. What if you wanted to change a MIDI parameter (any MIDI parameter) in the entire project but only for where note G3 occurs... Obviously over the top answer to make it obvious what it is for.

I've wanted to MIDI compress specific phrases before. I've done note replacement. Velocity scaling etc.. But think of it globally instead of just what is open in the ME.

Yeah I often use the logical editor. There are some really handy presets, such as remove all notes below a velocity, and i've made my own to add in things like more humanisation to midi that's is too tight for example.

Cubase by far especially considering the Logical editor. Look at this video of an app for Lemur that harnesses the logical editor to do rapid editing of midi parts...

For "mouse musicians" who exclusively compose inside the piano roll FL Studio is unparalleled.

For a more recording and editing / musical composition workflow Cubase supports everything I want to do and more. I havn't used any of the logical editor stuff yet but things like chord tracks speed up the process of songwriting for me. I know Logic has this as well. I don't typically use the piano roll for composition, so I don't know how good it is for that, but its absolutely fantastic for editing with advanced quantization features and transposition options.

Also when working heavily with percussion the drum editor mode and customizable mapping system in Cubase is a godsend

Can the logical editor be use to strip midi of certain values? I have never heard of it before.

I was not able to find much of anything it (MLE) can't do tbh. You kinda have to look through the choices available for the filters and conditions to get a full idea of how wide ranging it is.

The beauty of it is that LE scripts can be used as steps in macros. They're "scripts" in the most literal sense so you could say that Cubase has "managed scripting" but you can only really edit them in the LE editor, although, otoh, I've never went digging into the file system to see if they're actually xml or something that can be directly edited.

This is one of the few things that is actually unique to Cubase, and very cool.
