Sugar Bytes replied after reporting this crash with error message that they are going to take care of it immediatelyHans25 wrote:And now I tried to give it a shot but the damn thing crashed almost immediately. I loaded the obscurium, made a search for other plugins, then loaded Dune 2 and clicked "learn". In the moment I clicked a knob in Dune 2 it made Cubase crash. I just tried again and the same thing happend.
What a start.

I view this as more of a futuristic sequencing tool than a 'synth' - as such it looks fascinating to me. I am unclear on the hosting aspect in a Logic X environment though. No mention of hosting AU's; can it host VST's in Logic? Logic is hostile towards them but Bluecat Patcher and FL Mini Modular are somewhat able to do it in Logic.

can you comment on using the plugin to send midi CC data ? basically operating as it does in 'plugin mode' (which is to say, turning off the internal synth and opening up all the modulation lanes to user designated parameters)... but outputting the midi from the plugin so it can drive external gear or be used to pipe midi in-the-box between apps ? ..... essentially, a 'midi mode' ?
if it's all internal, it's bordering on a big 'fail' imo.
so far the only thing I can see it output is midi notes.
I hope I've overlooked something obvious.

I still cant work out what the hell this thing is. Is it an effects processor that you run another synth through or is it a synth with that crappy casio sound that I heard in the demo videos??

it's like a 32 step note & parameter sequencer/arp combo with a built in synth - with options like morphing between presets. alternatively you can bypass the internal synth in favour of hosting your own synth within the plugin.Kinh wrote:I still cant work out what the hell this thing is. however, as far as sequencers & arps go... its unique offerings seem to be pretty severely crippled IMO by the fact it doesn't appear to be fully midi compliant. Meaning it all just happens within its internal synthesis methods (including hosting your own synth within it).
At least that's what appears to be the case.

Demoed this and pretty sure I am going to buy. Was hoping to find an introductory offer for it somewhere but not seen anything...
Loved Egoist instantly just the same, but don't always use it in the way intended. Same applies here... The sounds generated by the plugin are neither here nor there IMO, it is all about the endless possibilities of combining randomness with your own choice of sounds. You can get magic you almost certainly wouldn't think of.
This does look to have more scope to get sounds you WOULD think of too (unlike Egoist, which for me is more about jiggling slices for fun and seeing what happens) as you can obviously use it to modify synth sounds in ways you specifically want. Modifications fitting certain patterns etc.
Pretty much every preset sounds awful, like an out-of-tune Sega Master System or something, so I understand anyone being put off. But again... same logic with Egoist, if you didn't buy that or didn't like it due to the onboard drum/bass sounds, then you missed out. Should use that and this new one to make fresh sounds... You can theoretically put anything in! (can load a sampler VST, which can run any sound obviously) so you can get all kinds of things out.

But it have any midi output or not ?(It would be interesting just as an auxiliary feature)
it outputs the midi notes only (not CC), at the moment.
but as you can see from the quote a couple posts above yours, from Sugar Bytes, they're adding in the assignment of midi CC's ... so it should output full midi in the first update.
For me, this will be much more than an Auxiliary feature. A sequencer/arp that doesn't output midi ... well, that's like tits on a bull as far as I'm concerned

I'm with you. Seems interesting to me based on the one video I watched last night. Maybe I can get some time to mess with it today.zeep wrote:I must be one of the few who found it very interesting and a nice walkthrough video. The plugin itself tempts me to play with it because it's reminiscent of the old 8bit computer chip trackers to me.

Well, I think they're trying to come up with a lot of new ways to sequence things. I agree, most are not for me, but when they came out with Turnado, they nailed it for me. I control it with a Hothand MIDI USB and use it as an invisible "whammy bar" effect processor for guitar and synth stuff. Super fun.inkwarp wrote:they seem to churn out this type of thing every other week...
i demo'd egoist and i just did not get on with it at all.
if you are looking for something similar maybe try ultraloop. phenominal plugin : )
I'm surprised at all the criticism of the sound engine. I've not yet demoed it but the one video I listed to sounded decent to me. Not earth shattering, but it seemed to fit what they were doing in the sequencer. Of course, if you can drive another synth then it's of little importance. Maybe in an update they can rig it so it disables it's sound engine to save CPU during this mode.
