Uh, there you go! I like all the wild things going on there! Nice depth, too. I just feel- watch out, personal taste coming- that it's a bit packed in the lower mids, making it almost feel a little stuffy to me.
But other than that I find it deliciously mad!

Yea I totally agree. I got lazy and tried to fix it with buss compression, but I plan to tighten up that area later when I have regained some objectivity. Thanks!Taron wrote:it's a bit packed in the lower mids, making it almost feel a little stuffy to me.

Cool, I'm excited about your track, it's really imaginative and rich. I wish I could offer better advice beyond my crude perception, but I'm struggling with my own mix again. While I'm kind of expecting to get another smack for whining about my mixes, hehe...
The trouble I have after listening to these dense 200 - 800 boosters that just come across so loud is that I feel that mine would be too quiet, but I'm not making a disco track, wanting to keep some air in there and some nuances. I gotta find the right balance at some point.

Hi this is my first submission.
Daw: Reaper
Synth: charlatan 2
I created all sounds, except 2 presets which are edited (organ pad and one key preset)
20 instances: 11 for melody sounds, 1 for fx sound, 8 for drums.
Effects: 2x ReaJS Limiter (for drum and for master), Rea EQ I hope I can use it (i cut only some low and hi frequences for some sounds), 1x Ambience for reverb, TAL Dub 2 and Bionic for deley.

Alright, I can't resist anymore...
This could be considered a preview as I might still add a few "neighborhoods", but this is my little story for OSC#77...
https://soundcloud.com/taronium/taron-citywolf
CityWolf - "Getting lost around Downtown Charlatan"
STORY:
City Wolf comes from the country to the city of Charlatan for the first time. Dazzled by the different neighborhoods, he eventually gets lost. That's all...for now! 8}
Charlatan instances: 36
(all patches from scratch)
DAW: MuLab ( http://www.mutools.com )
FX:
internal mux effect (TeaVerb, Tightroom, stereo, parametric EQ, 2 Band EQ, 4 Band EQ, delay cross, PingPongBeat, OnBeat, Amp SIM 30)
other free effects (Maxwell_Smart (jbridged), Nova-64P, Voxengo Boogex, Voxengo SPAN, LoudMax64)
The e-guitars have Voxengo's Boogex for one and MuLab's internal Amp SIM 30 on them, which obviously distort quite aggressively. I'm hoping this is still ok with everyone!?
The real fun was making all the foley effects, haha, even trying to create a kind of "chatter" that in the opening sounds more like some sort of squeaking, which I thought was kinda interesting, too. Later on it mixes into the environment a bit more like people of sorts, I think.
This has been more or less another mixing experiment, which is why I have more than one limiter on it and this interesting Nova-64P dynamic EQ, which I haven't fully explored, yet, but it sounds rich!
The most complicated sound is actually the ridiculous little piano in the jazzy neighborhood. It has 4 Charlatan layers with which I tried to cover the various overtones or spectral sections of a piano. It's not half bad, but I gladly kept it rather quiet, hahaha.

I can't wait to see how your entry for 76 does when the results come out later today. I'd be surprised if you didn't make the top 5.
Good luck.

Uuuh, THANKS, WAG!

Well, as for #76 and any to come, I'm afraid my tracks are all a little bit out there, haha, not exactly the kind of mainstream appeal, but if you pick up on the love and pleasure that went into it, it's already been serving its purpose and making my day!
...it would be one heck of an extra bonus to find even more approval and encouragement by top 5 placement, sure, and I'd get like a massively big head, too!
...but thankfully I was saved from that by landing on 6th.
Thanks again! Oh, and this time I've been and still am pretty freaking excited, tons of fun with this one!

I've had another go at my entry, changing the lead instrument and rewriting parts for it, and remixing the whole thing. Now up to 16 tracks, and still only native Studio One plugins. It needs at least one more go before the deadline as the percussion has somehow ended up too trebly. Going to have to find more time...

I think, the most distracting is that early reflection "hihat?". It kind of destroys the otherwise very mellow track. I think, overall the major components could use a bit more attack crispness...it currently makes one feel a bit dizzy in a not so pleasant way...like when you had 5 too many champagnes, hahaha...other than that, you could totally get this thing to be just fine. My caring advice to you would be to just try to stay miles away from any reverb, just to get you on top of things. Another interesting method to get depth, if that's what you're after, is to use what I call a "cross delay", just a single delay bounce on the opposite site of the sound, maybe EQed to give a sense of what kind of room and depth you want to provide, but most certainly more quiet than the source sound, of course.
Again...you have a little bit of an unfortunate relationship with reverbs, I'm afraid, but they are not an easy thing to handle, unless you know exactly what you "need".
So, yeah, clean it up and it gets really nice. It would already climb up a lot, if you just deleted all your reverbs, really!

Nice atmosphere. Do you use impulses with reaverb?
