I have 6-8 hours a day that I can make music. Earlier, it wasn't even enough but now, the last F***ING MONTH, I've spent that 6-8 hours sitting here or at facebook.. I tried that I just take the cable off from pc that I don't go online and what I do.. I sit in my computer chair, just stare the screen for 30 minutes and then I go watch netflix or play playstation.

After wasting that 6-8 hours, I disgust myself and I hate myself. Next day I do all that again.

Now I'll start to play starcraft for couple of hours, then I hate myself and go to sleep.

What kind of music do you wish to make?

It happens. Best to just go with it and accept it for the moment. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Immerse yourself in something completely different. The new experiences you can have there will eventually fuel your inspiration. I mean RL experiences, of course. ;)

Try and listen to a lot of new music for now. Find new bands/artists/tracks from genres that you love. But also, just go crazy and listen to stuff that you wouldn't even consider normally.

This may build a new appetite for making new tunes.

It happened to me... and so far it's lasted around 8 years or so and I'm totally cool with it (finally!). It's one of the reasons I ended up concentrating on mixing and mastering. I concentrated so hard that it's now my job so it worked out kinda okay :D

Seriously though, trying too hard will often just result in feeling miserable and burnt out so just do something else for a while - get out in the sun, do some reading etc.

Restrictions are always a great way to nurture creativity - and I don't mean restricting yourself to one synth or something like that - that still gives you a world of (paralysing) freedom. Restrict yourself to an idea - 'this songs only going to have one chord change' / 'this tracks only going to have 4 parts' / 'this tracks going to express a certain emotion' etc.

Another way to still make music without the burden of forcing creativity is to try to recreate a favourite track by another artist - can be a really good learning exercise too.

Something electric filled with energy that people hear it and go woohoo and boobs bounce wildly around the dancefloor.

In reality I make some laid back house that people would propably listen on a summerday when they sit under a tree and take a nap

That happens no matter how I try the first one xD

Some good advices already. In case they are not enough, I'll just add one ot two :

The soft one : Play music composed by other people. Its very relaxing AND very rewarding.

The drastic one : Dont make music at all for a time, and make life interesting without music ( it can be ). Desire will then rise again, more/less soon. ( Approx 99% chances). Just in case it never will, music was not your thing, something else will take the place. Nature hates emptyness. My 0.002.

Thanks for the tip but it's a bit difficult since I already do that :P Though now it popped in my mind that my most inspirational time is during mornings.. And that's the time when I can't do anything music related because I "have" to be with my kids.

It would be a lot easier if I could pay the rent with my music.. It could justify my wife why I rather fiddle with synths than change diapers filled with poo :D

yeah...dont worry about it. happens to everyone. youre not a machine, if no music is coming...just do something else for a bit.

i mean unless its your job and youre on some kind of a deadline...theres no need to try to force it.

sometimes i can bang out 3 complete tracks in a week...sometimes i cant even finish one in a month.

i spent the past couple of weeks playing the witcher 3 every night instead of making music because i was just sitting there staring at my computer not having any ideas.

last night i fired up my daw and and made half a track in 2 hours, ill probably finish it tonight.

blocks are frustrating yes, but temporary.

Best thing to do is listen to music that you absolutely detest. It inspires you to make something much much better.

I think inspiration might be driven down because of:

1.- Internet and social stuff (forums, Facebook, YouTube, etc.).
2.- Getting married / a girlfriend.
3.- Getting older.

But as said it may be something temporary. It's not like one can make a top 40 song every day.

My advice: get a real life friend or friends to share and make tunes with.

Hm.. I could make some remix.. I usually avoid making remixes though since they're not good enough IMO and I become so pissed at myself that I'm ready to sell my equipment and I don't do anything for a while and hate myself again :D

Not making music at all is bit bad option for me since I have adhd and things tend to slip away from my mind if I don't regulary do those. Plus I've had pauses and I've always come back :P

Hmm.. Maybe it is that I can't really focus on one thing for a long time (actually my wife said that it's a seventh wonder that I've focused this long to make music with computer). I started loooooooooooooong time ago with computer (fruityloops 2 if I remember right) then bass and had bands.. Then a tiny pause and got a guitar, then a keyboard and then back to computer based. Then I feasted my inner beast by buying new vst's every month and I kept myself inspired and stuff..

Now that I think I may have somekind of "I have to buy a new hardware synth before I can do anything" -thinking somewhere deep in my head :P
