I have all the U-he synths, SynthMaster, all the Arturia synths, Diversion, bla bla... Poly-ana is right up there in terms of sound quality. It's more like Bazille and Ace. Diva and Zebra are one notch above but you take a massive CPU hit. PA has it's own sound and its pretty analogue sounding although I consider it to be in it's own realm, like Diversion and SynthMaster, Loom etc are. I use PA quite a bit, its great for higher end punctuations that I want to punch through the mix without a lot of processing. In terms of sound quality vs CPU load, PA stands alone in my experience for offering a great balance between sound quality and CPU load (its actually surprising how good it sounds for the little CPU it consumes).

PA's price is in line with those listed above and so it's neither cheap nor over-priced especially at the sale price.

In terms of the sale, does it matter about the dev's personal situation or how long the sale is on for? if its a good synth and you can use it and justify the price, why wouldn't you just buy it and use it?

If you have a personal issue with the dev perhaps its better handled in email with him rather than ranting about it on the forum?

Zebra is quite CPU efficient, much more so than Diva, though...

Good point
Indeed, i agree with that. :)

Who got a personal issue with the dev?

EDIT: Maybe the user who added One Ping Only as thread related plug :hihi:

That's true! Zebra and PA are surprisingly efficient for the sound quality they produce. Zebra is harder to "tame" than PA. they are different hence why I have and use them both.

Diversion, Diva and Loom are a heavy load but with really nice sound too, more complex.

But definitely PA is in the same league as all those synths.

The saving grace for me with poly-ana's GUI has always been that actually you don't need to look at it at all ever if you've got a decent controller like Novation SL and Nektar Panorama. Every single control is visible to the host, even mod sources. So you can have a complete hardware synth experience with it and never look at the screen. But still, looking forward to a new GUI.

With the new Anti-aliasing feature/switch in PA 1.3 Beta 2 you could get a similar or ven better sound quality as before with using less CPU. In the old version you needed at least 4x oversamling (default value) or even 8x to get the same quality in terms of aliasing (compared to using the new anti-aliasing and 2x oversampling).

Has anyone been able to get the new skin to show ? I've installed 1.30 Beta 2 and it does have the new anti-aliasing button but it's still the old skin. The new skin files are in the proper folder and PA does show that it's registered to me. I wonder if it has something to do with the new registration system. I think I've still got the old system as I don't see an .ini file. I've e-mailed AQ so we'll see what he has to say but in the meantime I'm just curious to see if anyone can get the new skin to load.......... :)

EDIT: Looking at the files in the skin folder it doesn't look like it will be possible to change the red and green save/load buttons. I know this is an early beta but those graphics will have to be exposed in the skin folder or it's going to limit the look of any new skins....or at least clash with many things. To be honest those were the first things I went looking for to change. I've always disliked red and green together. Reminds me of Christmas which I hate with a passion........... :hihi:

EDIT 2: AQ responded and got the skin issue I was having fixed. I had the folder structure all messed up. I just dumped the whole Beta folder into my VST folder. The skin file had to be under Program Files/Admiral Quality/ Poly-Ana....I moved the folder and the new skin is working perfectly now. :tu:

Hi,

many thanks for the hint. Just got the new skin working too.

Here at Windows 7 64-bit i Had to copy the "skin" folder included with the Beta download to C:\Program Files (x86)\Admiral Quality\Poly-Ana (not the 64-bit Program Files folder)
In that folder also the key file for Poly-Ana is found.

The new skin indeed seems to be a step up while inspired by the old skin the new one is more "2D" (expet for the knobs/switches) so especially the controls at the lower left are more easy to read.
Looking forward to new skins that will come in the future (while i also was able to program patches in the old one without bigger problems...).

Was playing with Poly-Ana yesterday (and doing a few patches) and still love it after more than 7 years now, especially with the new Anti-Aliasing feature where the upper octaves could sound really clean.

I admit that i had ignored it for a while due too many other choices but after selling a bunch of plugins recently the situation is a bit better so i could focos on a smaller amount of synths now... :)

I can't get the new skin to show on mac. I've placed the skin folder at
User Folder/Library/Application Support/Admiral Quality/Poly-Ana

Is this not correct?

I did a little tweak to the new skin. Just some minor edits that's about all I know how to do:

EDIT: I decided to switch out the previous screenshot for this one....I'll be using it until alternatives arrive....
I wish I knew how to change the big knob background or how to make a lighter color knob. Maybe I'll give it a go in Knobman later...........

All I can find for Mac is:

On OSX in: /Users/Your_user_name/Library/Application Support/Admiral Quality/Poly-Ana/skin/

So it looks like your path is correct. I don't own a Mac so can't help any further.........

There are many Knob examples available on Knobman gallery website. That may help to get something that you want.

I just checked out PA website. There are many backgrounds created by Scott Kane and others. I don't like the original 3D look, also the modulation dial catches the eye as soon as you open the UI. The screen shot that Tek posted above is better, only the knobs need to be positioned properly :-)
