Just did my very first try ever to use JKnobMan. Used the knob file publiahed at the AdmiralQuality website:
http://www.admiralquality.com/products/ ... /skins.php

My first try looks maybe abit "funny" (an orange metallic knob) but at least this seems to work when the png is exported and implemented in teh skin folder (kept the same name as te original PNG).

Looking forward to what the Pros will get out of the new skinning feature... :)

EDIT: I decided to switch out the previous screenshot for this one....I'll be using it until alternatives arrive....
I wish I knew how to change the big knob background or how to make a lighter color knob. Maybe I'll give it a go in Knobman later...........

Looking so much better with the flat view! Hopefully someone makes a background that is meant for the dropdown boxes. For example the word "Source" far below the dropdown box can move up and there's generally more room for labels with the mod sources as boxes.

As far as the knobs, yeah they all need to be replaced.

And on the background, I was always a fan of this one:

ButI'm sure a lighter one would be cool. What's good about the above one is that although the overall background is dark, the area around the big knobs is lighter, rather than dark, which makes it harder to tell where the knob is.

The rest of the skin is the one included with v1.30 Beta 2.

I am no GUI designer and i used JKnobMAn for the first time so this is just for fun at the moment... :)

I've seen those before it's just a matter of time to try and make a replacment knob and get the framerates etc right. There is some helpful information on the AQ site.
satYatunes wrote:There are many backgrounds created by Scott Kane and others.
Those won't work with the new skin however........
satYatunes wrote:The screen shot that Tek posted above is better, only the knobs need to be positioned properly :-)
What I posted is just an edit of the default skin AQ posted recently. I just did a negative image on the background and tweaked a few things.

Do you plan on doing a skin for PA ? If you don't already own a license you can get one in exchange for a skin. I'm hoping AQ exposes the Save/Load/File buttons and windows which he said may happen in a future update.

There are some very nice analog style knobs in the gallery. Can you make one for PA using one of those please ? Or can you post a screenshot of the settings required in Knobman to make the knob for PA function the full 360 degrees as suggested on the AQ site ? :)

Totally new to this and actually so far i only used teh knob file provided at the Beta website.
Just found a simple way how to recolour the background included with the Beta skin.

Also replaced the small knobs with others now.
Will look at the knobs library ASAP.

UPDATE:
This is a black skin with Red/white knobs (for both the big and small knobs), yellow LEDs + red small switches and "golden" 3 way + 2 way switches (recoloured the original ones):

I'd love to see a more compact widescreen version for us laptop users ... without the big dials there's a lot of wasted space in the middle of the gui. I don't really need the keyboard either.

Apparently AQ is making a more compact version currently.

The problem with red knobs is that red is used to indicate a button that is ON. So the active buttons are hidden by the see of red knobs.

The difference between a button that is off and on is this PNG file (upper is off):

Will maybe try to use a different color like e.g. yellow.

UPDATE:
Just replaced with a small red button and yellow LED:

Also updated the GUI screenshot in my post above and removed the old file.

UPDATE:
Just replaced the bigger metallic 3 way and 2 way switches with "golden" ones instead of silver (just recoloured them).

So far this was all quite simple. For bigger changes of the GUI like complete change of the background (e.g. fonts) or even rearrangement of the controls i am not really qualified at the moment.

As already mentioned for me this is just for fun at the moment...

To be honest I have the feeling AQ is probably wishing he hadn't added the ability to skn Poly-Ana...... :hihi:

Hi,

looks like Mike from Admiral Qualty was reading my posts about messing with the skin and this is what he just posted to me by e-mail (he mentioned i could post this):
You've probably already noticed that your current knobs don't line up exactly with their positions as they're not the same size as the original knobs. That can currently be fixed by editing the coordinates
of each control in the XML file, but with 212 controls that's a lot of work!

I just had an idea though and I've already implemented it and it works great. I've added one more (optional) attribute to each ImageSrc definition in the XML file that let's you offset every control that uses that image by a given amounts in X and Y pixels. This way, when you change the size of a control, you can shift them all at once rather than having to make potentially hundreds of edits, which believe me I know is tedious and error-prone. :)

So yes, hang on a few hours (at least 6, compiling, documenting, packaging and publishing a new release takes quite a while) and we'll have Beta 3 out that makes that change, plus gives TekSonik the
editable Load/Save buttons he was requesting. (Working on that part now.)
So basically a new Beta 3 is already on the way to make skin editing easier and also add some more options.

Have not messed with the XML file yet but will have a look when Beta 3 is out.

PS:
I should give everyone at KVR except Daags (!!) a "Hi!" from Mike... :)

Anybody doubting AQ's support......Less than a day ago I asked for the Save/Load buttons etc to be exposed so they could be edited as well and the new build allowing for that is compiling as we speak. I'd say that's great service. :tu:

I'm trying to clean up the white skin edit....see Osc 1 as opposed to Osc 2 but it really needs lighter knobs. I've stumbled around Knobman long enough to know I have neither the talent or time to gain skills enough to do a new knob so if anyone could give it a shot I'd appreciate it a great deal.
