EnGee, I noticed you're running Windows 10, is it an upgrade from Win7/8? Is it faster?
Thanks again peeps

Yes it is an upgrade to Windows 8.1. Well, not that big difference from 8.1 but it seems a tiny little bit faster. I liked a lot 8.1 but 10 is nicer with the Start menu back and the interface looks less Phonysl23 wrote:EnGee, I noticed you're running Windows 10, is it an upgrade from Win7/8? Is it faster?

Just for the sake of fun i tried to do the same with another USB2 port and see what happens. It works like a charm, only it becomes MiniNova 2 etc... On my system only the USB3 port is effected. Confirmed.
Beware though Novation has tons of drivers and they also have a USB driver i think. Not sure if it is used for the Mini but they have one.
On USB cables:
I would say normally it is just a few wires like it is not even there. If they are wired incorrectly then it is not faulty behaviour it is destroyed device or port.
Notice that there are cables that look like a simple cable but have tiny chips built into the connectors and they are for specific hardware.
I had a USB harddisk which worked only with its own cable which means it is not actually USB compatible whatever they say. My newest USB3 HD has a special connector on the disk side but works fine on USB2. They should be wire compatible like all of them. I was too lazy to look it up but you might look up MiniNova USB3 problems. Google is your friend.

You're not gonna believe this!!! It's stopped working again!!! Another restart seems to have done something?

I have had external drives need the cables that came with the device too, I tried using a cable that looked the same but it obviously wasn't as it wouldn't power up the drive.piel wrote: On USB cables:

Both. But am avoiding USB3! I completely uninstalled everything Novation using IObit Uninstaller, then rerun DeviceCleanup and removed everything Novation, then went through system folders and removed all Novation stuff. Then reinstalled MiniNova software v1.4b7 but didn't update the firmware in case it caused an issue, but had done that yesterday using this version, so shouldn't be a problem?
Ah! Registry! Try that now.

Might just try a fresh Winstall, maybe upgrade, see if that cures it! Actually upgrade probably not good idea till it's sorted in case that has problems?! What do you think?

Two things. I did a bit of searching. USB3 is not working for other people either.
I don't think your stupid or anything but here is what you should do:
Uninstall all Novation stuff and reboot. Check after if there are any residual files on the HD or in the reg.
Install again but don't plug in the synth yet, only when the istaller says so. (sorry but lots of peeps skip this)
When done, unplug the synth and reboot again. If there where no errors or forced shutdown of processes, ->Start up then Plug in and see if it works.
Always use the ports on the back for this and make sure it actually is a USB2 port.
Installed stuff not working after reboot often means the system actually never shuts down properly like when you just press reset.
PS what is the OS number and firmware anyway?

What about a restart or shutdown shortcut that tells windows to force shutdown? I suppose that could be the problem? Maybe disconnect the MiniNova before each shutdown too?
Ok, I'll run through your list. I'm currently uninstalling it all again to clear the registry anyway. Here goes...

Sorry missed that.PS what is the OS number and firmware anyway?
Software v1.4b7
OS v1165
PW v1001
Ok, did all that you said, and now it's hanging on updating the firmware! Has been around 10-15 mins so far still hanging.
EDIT: One bar is now showing on the firmware updater. But 'Update' is NOT shown in the MN display as normal.

I use exactly the same.
It should not take that long. I'm running out of ideas...
I don't rerally understand why is it upgrading the FW when it is already the latest?
Have you installed this one? Novation USB Driver-2.6.exe it comes up in MiniNova support downloads.
Maybe you did on your laptop just forgot about it? The launchpad needs it too.

Had to cancel as it wasn't doing anything.
On clearing the system, before trying again following your suggestions, I plugged the MN in first before installing software. This set off windows driver installation. But when I cleared the system a second time to follow you list, I waited til asked to plug in the MN but when I did windows didn't install the driver like it did before, despite having removed all evidence of the MN?!
Yes, I've tried the driver you mentioned, but regardless of the actual MiniNova software I installed, v1.4 came with it, or v1.4b7 which is the latest, the attempt to install the standalone driver simply says a newer version is installed, as it is included in the software installer.
Exactly! It goes to update when it doesn't need to, so it's not checking to see if it has latest version or it's faulty somehow.I don't rerally understand why is it upgrading the FW when it is already the latest?

As I've cleared my PC of all Novation, I tried the USB driver again. First, I used Universal Extractor to find out what driver was installed with the v1.4b7 software. It appears to be v1.1? So I had a go at installing the standalone driver to see if it would work now that the system is clean, it installed without a hitch. I was unsure what to install ie, ASIO or MIDI or ALL Novation Products, so I did the latter, whilst the MN was unplugged. Restart? just going to try...
