Don't mind this skin at all. Good work.H-man wrote:Hey Norbz, all,
Just playing around with some aspects, bi-polar dials, colours etc. I'm not really wedded to any of this, just testing stuff along the way using Norbz's template. Any comments welcome.
Note: there is a new mod selector to be added and the voices dial is still wrong but all WIP.

Ingo, your ".Knob" files are blank when I open them inside knobman, which version are you using?
Thanks,
David

And I don't mind that darker wide screen version of yours Ingo. I might download some of these skins and see how they are to work with on my screen.

Hi,Totolitoto wrote:Ingo, your ".Knob" files are blank when I open them inside knobman, which version are you using?

what do you mean with "blank"? I am using JKnobman v1.3.2 (on Windows 7 64-bit) and thefiles are working here.
If you mean the labels those for the first version of the skin are white so maybe you do not see them. For editing you could switch them to black. You should be also able to see the white ones at the display in the lower left of JKnobman.
In the newer "metallic" knobs a layer of black and white colors is used for the labels so maybe you do not see the white ones in the editor.
I did not use teh "native" windows version of Knobman yet, also as the website recommends to switch to JKnobman:
Bug-fix version of 1.50. Probably this is the last version for windows-native. current development is changed to Java ported version. I recommend to migrate to JKnobMan than this version.

Actually, I think you improved. The knobs look much better now, and the light grey background with the "brushed steel" also. Just some observations:
The labeled knobs don't have the label properly placed 8at least it seems so to my eyes). They look deviated up a little, and also a little to the left. Maybe you could check that. Nevertheless, I still prefer the drop-down menus.
The Bump effect doesn't have the expected results with the light grey background. Instead of making the labels more readable, it actually makes them worse. Maybe it's a problem with the font, but in this version I prefer the one without that effect.
Since the keyboard has a shadow, I think the knobs also need one (otherwise, there will be something that, even if just subconsciously, will not "fit" in our brain).
Summing it up, your skin biggest advantage is the more coherent placement of the elements, but it is still in need of improvements aesthetically.

The little knobs also need a facelift, IMO, as I already said.

I mean, empty layers and invisible knobs
It must be the java thing, I don't want to install Java though, so be it...

Yeah just goofing aroundfmr wrote:I agreeH-man wrote: Those knob colours don't match tho...I would totally drop that - just a discrete scale around the knob would be enough, IMO. After all, when editing we have the pop-up labels displaying the exact value, and when playing we are not exactly worried with the knobs position

The little knobs also need a facelift, IMO, as I already said. And you have no shadows in the knobs now, yet the shadow remains in the keyboard.
One thing I would say is that having re-worked the XML (or most of it) for Norbz, I have to respect Ingo's efforts to alter the layout of the various controls.
In essence, it's like one massive game of Battleships
I have yet to try it (them) personally but will do so in the next day or so to see how it fits with work-flow. Like them or not however the re-working of the XML file is a huge help to all potential folks wanting to create a skin.
