As nobody else has mentioned it I thought I would:

Could this be in response to Guitar Rig

Post

Could be!

OR, it's yet another way to make the package more attractive than the V-Amp 2. The XT is substantially more expensive to begin with, and the new packs actually cost money-- however, in the grand scheme of things, it makes the extra money seem more worthwhile and makes the V-Amp 2 look crippled by comparison.

Of course, since I'm skint, I'm still thinking of the V-Amp 2 instead of either the XT OR Guitar Rig.

You could try what I did and buy the pod xt second hand and purchase the extra models from the money saved.

82 Amps is pretty good value for money.

And the number of FX now available is getting a bit silly but fun for synths etc as well as guitars.

podxt is definetly better than v-amp2, but not really by too much when you consider

v-amp:

$129 USD

PODXT

$400 USD + $100 USD for extra amps.

the v-amps sounds are really great! I use them all the time.. also, if you ask for it, behringer will send you an EPROM to plug in if youre a new customer with the latest firmware upgrade :)

if i had the money id go podxt tho.

I have an xt and just got the model packs, they're awsome! Some of the effects seem a little useless, but I'm sure I'll they'll find they're way into some songs... I'm waiting for custom tone to open back up so I can download other peoples presets...

What does the EPROM for the V-Amp 2 do?

For bang for the buck, you still gotta admire the V-Amp 2. Since I'm a broke-ass guy who's... er... broke!... I'll likely be getting neither any time soon, but the V-Amp 2 is more realistically attainable.
