Problem: Lost Inspiration.
Solution: Find wall...throw shit...repeat until something sticks.

Thanks for the link. By that link I found thismusikmachine wrote:Check this out, tell me if it resonates with you:Lejurai wrote:I have 6-8 hours a day that I can make music. Earlier, it wasn't even enough but now, the last F***ING MONTH, I've spent that 6-8 hours sitting here or at facebook.. I tried that I just take the cable off from pc that I don't go online and what I do.. I sit in my computer chair, just stare the screen for 30 minutes and then I go watch netflix or play playstation.
After wasting that 6-8 hours, I disgust myself and I hate myself. Next day I do all that again.
Now I'll start to play starcraft for couple of hours, then I hate myself and go to sleep.
Also check out some of the interviews of people who've been on the course he runs on his YT channel.
I did it about a year and a half ago and now at the stage where i've released a track on distrokid, i'm aiming to start sending to labels soon but i haven't quite hit the goal of finishing 4 tracks a month but i've gotten better through finishing tracks and applying various techniques (a lot of it to with the brain and nlp) but musics a priority before all else unless i'm having a bad day evn then i try and do 15 minutes or brush up on something.
I've finished two songs.. TODAY. The reason I don't/didn't enjoy making full songs was straight the fact that I'm not happy with stuff I make so I didn't do anything but those 2-4 bar loops. After watching that vid I decided that I don't give a crap about it and I just finish songs, the "greatness" will follow at some point!
There's really no point to avoid doing stuff because "it's not good enough"
Great place to compare is some superstars and their early productions.. They're often somewhat awful compared to stuff they release now 15-20 years later

Even charts stations have more variation and willingness to do something different than the average modern country station.

And it works. I've now made 3 songs and I already start to really notice my weak points that I need to practise more to become better.arkmabat wrote:Yes. This is actually what the YouTube Mike Monday guy is basically suggesting.Karma_tba wrote:Problem: Lost Inspiration.

Stop trying to copy everyone else's music. Stop trying to make generic EDM or house music.
Try to make a song using only the sound of children's toys and kitchen utensils.
Record a polka song using only sine waves.
Set a deadline to finish a song. The record company just called and they need your new track by tomorrow afternoon!

I have a tendency to over analyse so recently i've been imposing arbitrary limits; 30 minutes to create, 30 minutes to anaylse. You can go further and limit how much time to spend on a track, that's how guys get to finishing 4-6 tracks a month, good stuff as well, not mediocre or anything.arkmabat wrote:You guys aren't alone. I find I'm -most- creative when I'm busy and don't have much time actually. I value the time more then I think.musikmachine wrote:Check this out, tell me if it resonates with you:Lejurai wrote:I have 6-8 hours a day that I can make music. I think Mike said he finished a 1000 or thousands during his career but he releasd about 200. You may finish a track you like, release it and it not do very well so you've kinda got to be prolific and show the labels you can produce consistently good music.
Gotta be organised as well so that when you sit down to make music not too much is gonna get in the way especially where time is limited.

It's about writing but i think it's a process a lot of people go through especially starting out. You may have to finish a lot of crap to get to the good stuff. And even when you reach a point not every track will be great or well received, even tracks you don't like can some of the most successful apparently. Main thing is to finish tracks. Oh i recommend checking out Making Music: Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers
It's by Dennis Desantis who wrote the ableton manual. If i ever get stuck i dip into that. It covers problems with beginning, progressing and finishing tracks with a bunch of different strategies.
