But it didn't... Tim composed it. He just used a tool that many people seem to be afraid of!! They hear "algorithm" or "random" and freak out.

They tend to have a complex where they think its not really their work because they didn't compose it note for note.

Yes - off and on since...mwerr? the early 90's. I have a tune done in the Voyetra port of "M" that I call "March of the Ravenous Bureaucrats". I dredge it up every election season. I did it on a Roland MT-32, with customized Dr. T's patches. It runs about 6 minutes. Very mecahnique, but very sinister to my ears. It's a bit much for most folks tho. I may yet add in some candidate sound bites for flavor. I have one of Bill Clinton that is just perfect...need to dredge up a few of Bush and Cheney...

I am a BIG M fan... a very cool application. Talk about a pattern maker: I can listen to that thing for hours!

and it won't repeat itself!

I also still use an MT32 with Dr T's Caged Artist MT32 editor...a very cool editor. I run it all within DR T's KCS...one of the best MIDI sequencers on the planet when you combine it with PVG ( Programmable Variation Generator) and his MIDI AX app.( Fingers and alternate Mouse controller)HEY...maybe I'll fire it up again tonight!

Also... how funny... and how cool!!! I was just going through some old Atari disks earlier this week and M was one of the disks that I came across - as well as Realtime and SMPTETrack.

At the time I was thinking, too bad I can't use these programs anymore.

Now I might be able to!

Hey, I wonder if you could tell me what I might be doing wrong with STEem: I wanted to use IMS (I think that's what it's called... the predecessor to Muzys, and a GREAT little app IMHO) but the MIDI timing was all over the place

Could that be something with STEem? I have AthlonXP 1900+, 512 meg DDR, NVIDIA Geforce 2, Windows XP pro, M-Audio Delta 44, M-Audio Oxygen 8... Just in case you have heard anything about this, I'd love it if you could pass it on

(If not off the top o' your head, don't worry 'bout it - you should be working on Super Sid, not my silly little MIDI/STEem problems

Tim: You should try the AlgoArt software. Very good stuff goin on with them!!

Apart from those, I've been using Plogue a bit to get some nice randomisation.

On a previous algo track of yours I showed interest in this, but somehow never got round to it. And sofar looking ahead I see a filled agenda, so it may still take some time before I get to it.

All in all, my special TC folder is filling up nicely too...

This track; I must confess I find it a bit thinnish, but that is more the sounds used I guess. Love what I am hearing though. I'm rather enjoying the melodical side of TC as opposed to the patch-TC

More please; plenty of room left in the folder

Funny you should say RealTime and M: the guy responsible coded both of them: or rather the Atari port of M. RealTime is very cool as well: a big Giant M program. he was nice enough to release both as freeware.( along with David Z )

Spoonboiler: It might be a setting in steem. make sure you are on 4 megs and 16Mhrz ( those were the good 'ol days :-)It takes more processing power to do weird non-st settings.

... have used it for drums in the past but most recently the original structure of the track i did for K-v-R : M-c-R was built from tinkering with poodles-n-flan and chopping up some of the MIDI it spewed out ...

... can be a good way to get ideas going if youre really stuck i find

Zowie, quite the tune and technique, really impressive but also has lots of something hard to define: gravitas, soul, that look in Rembrandt's eyes in his last self-portraits. Reminded me of the Tim Story feeling but even edgier, like the Fates are about to cut a thread pretty close to home. Thanks as usual for all the interesting leads.

what kind of midi looper did you use? I tried installing some proggies but none of them work well in XP
